I had an older gentleman stop into the shop today wondering if we could refinish an Anshutz Model 470 rifle he had purchased. I was unsure what the receiver material was made of so I couldn't give a sure answer.

Does anyone know what material the receivers were made of?

I'm guessing it is a zinc based die casting as it was nonmagnetic yet too heavy to be aluminum. If so, anyone have success anodizing zinc based castings? I told him I'd look into it and get back to him. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

I did drill out a broken screw and re-tap it for him. He was upset when I told him it was free. :D

Zamac or some such zinc based alloy as far as I know. A coating would likely be the best option.

Thanks for the input. I figures is was some sort of zinc alloy. I informed the guy to get it coated and pointed him in the direction of Armacoat.
