Hey all,

So I am debating on whether or not to take the plunge and purchase the Anschutz MPR, as it appears as though I will never find an MS R without importing and the related small fortune associated with that avenue.

My question is this... Can I reasonably expect top notch accuracy out of the MPR? Is it really going to be a better shooter than my CZ 452 Varmint? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be good.... but good enough to spend that kind of money?

As always, all opinions/thoughts are welcome, however I'd really appreciate hearing some honest feedback from any MPR owners out there.

Thank you.

I had a brand new CZ455 Varmint Thumbhole and currently have an MPR . Short answer , the CZ is not even in the same league as the Anschutz . Not trying to be smart here , just my observations based upon extensive shooting with both using good ammo . Build quality is much better with the Anschutz and the accuracy is fantastic . For reference , my MPR is set up as a tactical trainer and is only shot off a bipod . My last range session , I shot 7 , five shot groups , back to back ( cold , clean barrel ) at 50 yards using SK Standard Plus and the average group size was .256 , with the best group being .107 . I also shot a 10 shot group and it was .379 . My CZ would NEVER shoot like this . Ever . The CZ is a nice rifle , but , it's no Anschutz .

Average Annie should out shoot the average CZ. There will be some overlap in variation of individual rifles where the lower performing Annies will be out shot by the best CZs. How good is your 452 shooting now?

Jesus... that is some impressive accuracy!

May I ask what optics you have on your MPR?

HondaVTEC is absolutely right. The MPR is a much better shooter than the CZ 452 Varmint. The MPR is much better suited for shooting from the bench because it is heavier and has a fore stock that fits a front rest very well. A good rifleman with an MPR should always shoot better than a good rifleman with a CZ 452 (or 453 or 455) Varmint.

I can achieve MOA at 100 IF the rifle and I are having a good day...

100 yards is a tough distance to evaluate a .22's accuracy, wind and ammo consistency have a huge effect. Take this with a grain of salt, it was my first attempt shooting for serious groups at 100 yards with my 64 MSR. When the wind wasn't handing me my adz, and I got a consistent run of ammo... pretty darn good accuracy is possible. Really gotta lot test ammo for 100 yards, rifle gets even pickier than it is at 50 yards.

I recently sold my CZ455 Thumbhole with fluted bull barrel (not the varmint barrel) and purchased a lightly used Anschutz MPR from a friend. The CZ was very accurate and I was not planning on upgrading it, but I got a chance to shoot the MPR and was very impressed with the quality and accuracy. I don't think I would have been willing to give up the CZ for an MPR that I did not get to try first - it would be disappointing to sell an above average CZ and get a below average MPR, but I was lucky enough to get to take the rifle for a "test drive" first.

The fundamental question ," is it worth the money ? " , is a very personal and subjective thing . For me , I wanted better accuracy than what my CZ455 delivered . Anschutz was the obvious next step . I had never owned an Anschutz rifle before , but , I knew guys that did . I've never ever heard them say a bad thing . So , I decided it was worth the risk to spend the money and see for myself . The risk paid off . The rifle is better , no question about it . For me , it was a big purchase and it was worth it . Group sizes were cut in half . But , there was more to it then that . My rifle is set up as a tactical trainer , with a FFP Elite Tactical 6-24 scope with a G2DMR ret and mil turrets on a 25 moa base . I want to shoot out to 200+ yards with precision . The shape of the stock and the superb 5098 2 stage trigger REALLY help . Shooting groups at 50 yards is one thing , shooting with precision at 200 yards is another . My MPR is not a bench rest rifle . I use it to replicate tactical shooting with extreme precision and in this role , properly set up , it is superb . It is a better rifle , than I am a shooter . Let's face it , Anschutz is a company that has rim fire figured out big time and their competition history speaks for itself .

The MPR in Tom E Gun s post above is an awesome shooter. I shot so many challenge groups with it and it was almost boringly accurate. He shoots it better than me !I highly recommend the MPR as its a lot of bang for the buck, awesome trigger. On a good day it can out shoot a 54 action.

With all the money I have spend on 22's I woulda shoulda coulda ought both Anshutz 1710 and 1712.

What needs to be asked is how much do you want to spend, how much can you afford, and what do you plan to scope it with?
Will you pack it in the field or do you want a rifle with target grade accuracy.

Thanks to all who have posted. It looks as though I'll be taking the plunge....

Anyone wanna buy a CZ 452 Varmint? Hehehe...

As much as I'd love to, my Annie purchase has been put on hold; dog needed surgery this week and that dinged me for $1200. I'll be shooting the CZ 452 Varmint for a while longer it seems and while it's a good rifle, it is certainly not capable of BR competition.

Oh well, life happens! I'll muckle on to an Annie sooner or later...
