I spent the weekend attempting to find a goat to one up my old man. His goat grossed 81 5/8" so I was fairly picky. I came across one that I believe will gross in the high 70s range but he seems quite deceiving. I'm looking for some input from any goat hunters out there on a score estimate! Let me know what you think this thing will gross.

I guessed him around 14" in length, approximately 6" prong measurement and a little over 6" circumference at the base.

Just my opinion, but I'd say that pronghorn would score in the high 60s or low 70s... not enough mass to score well, and I'm not sure that he would be over 14".

When I first saw him I guessed him around the 73 mark. I only watched him for a few minutes and carried on. After watching the video I had on him he looked a little better than on the hoof. I just don't want to shoot something that I won't be happy with so I figured I'd ask for some imput! Thanks guys.

Do the bigger horns taste better? :D

Seriously, if you have to ask, he's probably not the one. You'll know when you see one that's over the 14" mark.

I eat what I kill, but I won't shoot something that has the potential to make the books later on in life(If I can help it). I have a pile of tags in a drawer from years past and it doesn't bother me in the least. If I was hunting for meat I'd be tagged out with archery for every animal I had tags for within a week. I can't handle not being able to hunt something when the season is open, so I hunt for sport. Hunting mature animals who have been hunted in the past is a lot more challenging, and that's what I enjoy... Besides, I still have until November 14th for Antelope, and until December 7th for Whitetail. I'm in no rush to eat venison.

I agree, just razzing you. I won't shoot anything that has potential, those are the ones to pass on and I wish more hunters would do the same. I love venison so have no problem filling tags with does.

I haven't filled an either ### tag with a doe yet.. I will shoot a doe for meat with an antlerless tag, usually because we process our meat before the season is over. If there's 2 days left in season when we decide to make sausage I still can't fill an either ### tag.. What if a "Booner" was to randomly appear?!

I'm definitely not short on venison though, as last year we made ~1000 lbs. of sausage on a weekend. I even had to take a few hours Saturday morning to shoot another doe in order to have the right deer - pork ratio....

:D

those suplemtal tags are great for meat deer, with several of us hunting we try to only shoot the yearlings, they are tender, we save the choice cuts, and the rest goes into the sausage mix.

The general tag gets saved for any big buck that happens to be foolish enough to be chaseing does without looking for hunters :D

I guess we're just lucky out here to have a good selection of tags and a hunting season thats almost 3 months long :D
