Anti bear hunting article - Yukon News

I guess they'll miss seeing the bear while driving home on a paved highway in their automobile with a Gov't cheque in their pocket. They should be happy the bear is gone, don't bears pray on moose calves which they need to hunt to survive.

So you want to have a rational conversation by stereotyping IE: "Gov't cheque in their pocket" not cool, very not cool. You denigrate legitimate arguments when you stoop to this type of low remark

It's truer than you'll ever know. Most(90%) of the people who have issues with what I would consider 'normal' living are government implants to the territory. Last census pinned it at 42% of the working population of the territory is employed by the government and every major law change that pissed off the locals was started and pushed by an out of territory implant forcing a personal agenda. As it is this particular event has the potential to result in a no hunting corridor along many highways which will likely only apply to licensed hunters using tags.

“Next time a bear hangs around, maybe we’ll put up some signs saying ‘Don’t bother the bear,’ ‘Don’t shoot the bear.’”

Hmmmmm

The jab was not toward government implants it was toward the local band who spoke out about it... stereotyping that native people live off government handouts and should be grateful for that nice highway they drive on

For the record....

I don't have an issue with bear hunting or anyone's right to speak their mind on it.... I think its damn silly to essentially have what sounds like a local pet bear... it was bear season, the bear is gone get over it I say

You don't have to stoop to bigotry to get that same point I just made across....

there is way too much ignorance & intolerance in the world already

I think he was referring to heading out to the local dump.
Maybe thats how some people from the lower mainland get their bear, but I prefer the
ones far from town and sitting in a wild blueberry or strawberry patch myself!
Obviously the hero who shot it will have big stories to tell how he or she stalked it far from any road.
I must be dense or daft because I didnt see anywhere it was talking about loosing GB Hunting in the Yukon.
As long as it was a legally harvested animal its a done deal.
Tight Groups,
Rob

I thought i detected a whiff of sarcasm...

Ah my apologies. I didn't catch that on the first read through. That said there is plenty of preferential treatment of that class as well up here and further enabled by the population segment that I was referring to. It's kind of a self perpetuating cycle of egocentric entitlement. The bands tend to think that the entire territory rightfully belongs to them(signed agreements with set boundaries on their lands so no, it doesn't) and the government politically correct/environmental segment of the population like to believe that particular notion and make laws that uphold said ideal and give preferential treatment in the bureaucracy. That said one always has to differentiate between the working class and the political class as that distinction precludes racial boundaries, however the racial card is used to an advantage in the latter class when applicable(and quite effective when dealing with government organizations).

No worries about the first read through, it happens... I guess why this rubs me the wrong way is that the article did mention the local band but also mentioned tourists and some other locals crying for the dead bear... there really wasn't "native" issue here, the topic was bear hunting and how sad those groups were for the bear.... silliness as I stated before... lots of people got their points across including myself without getting ugly about it

Regarding preferential treatment etc, I don't want to get into a whole debate about the past and why things are they way they are today, I'm likely not going to change a lot of minds and sure as hell not the world... but suffice to say that I've seen the coin from both sides and what I've seen and learned isn't pleasant, its actually embarrassing to me anyway

Typical pablum. A grizzly bear hanging around the community? Oh great, everyone should have one.

“If you really want to go hunting, go out in the bush and go hunting,” said Cresswell. “If you want to see a big grizzly, get someone to take you out and really see what a grizzly is.”If you want to hunt a bear you should go out in the bush?

Confused yet? Well, take it in the "spirit" intended.

nothing new over here for a pressure against road hunters for bears.

in 2006 and 2013 a resident of the Atlin road has tried to block the hunters from doing that so nothing new Under the sun.

it come that some thinks that FN started that war against hunters it s more simple .... most of the inhabitants now are against hunting and guns until something happens.

a shame last year they had to shoot around 20 bears within the city limit and none of the antis said a word against that.

first i think that the law should be changed and we hunters need to bring the meat to use or giving to any in needs not as many are doing and waste the meat in the field.

just my opinion.

all the best.

Regrettably, I am not a YT resident right now "I want to go back, and I will" service analogy. Personally I think that anybody that hasn't lived there for at least 10 years should be barred from running for office, or allowed to put forward legislation. too many Ottawa Citiots have invaded, when they moved here for the lifestyle, and tried to turn it into Onterrible, then moved back after "leaving us in a better space" "We don't give a crap how you do it outside"

Just Ottawa Citiots? there are plenty of other cities down here with equally stupid people that like to 'educate' the rest of the country!

Wild animals are just that...wild. They are 100% unpredictable. Hell even dogs attack and kill people. What happens the day it decides to attack someone? Or the young child who thinks its a pet and approaches it wanting to pet it? There is NO such thing as a "community bear". Stupid, stupid, stupid...

I'm in agreement.

and the future is really dark now ...

Yukon announces review of roadside hunting

Review comes in wake of shooting of grizzly and could take two years for changes

The Yukon Government has ordered a public review of the hunting regulations for roadside wildlife.

The move is expected to address public concerns about a recent shooting of a grizzly bear along the Tagish Road near Carcross, in the southern lakes region of the territory.

Harvey Jessup chairs the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board.

He says the review has been in the works ever since a similar incident two years ago on the nearby Atlin Road.

"We think that this is important enough an issue that we should be looking at it from a territory-wide perspective and we could address everyone’s interest in terms of hunting along roads and opportunities to view wildlife along roads."

Jessup said an advisory group will be working on a plan for public consultations this month.

He says the policies have been up for review ever since the board rejected a bear protection policy for the Atlin Road two years ago.

"If our recommendation for the Atlin road was different it wouldn't have helped this particular bear on the Tagish Road. And that’s the point that we are trying to make. We don't want to come at this piece meal. If we are going to address hunting along road corridors and the opportunities wildlife along roads present for wildlife viewing, let’s do it. Let’s do it territory wide." He said.

He says if all goes as planned, the group could have recommendations for new hunting rules ready for government by next spring.

Short of government intervention, he says, the process could take until 2015 to have new hunting regulations implemented.

Oh to all you who couldn't read between the lines in the original article. You're stupid lol. Hmmm sounds to me like hunting oppoirtinities being taken away in light of a territory wide road hunting review.
