Just to add a quick story to this thread.
A few years back we found a little terrier (yorkie or similar) in my in-laws backyard. No tag or anything. She was super skinny and her fur was in fairly rough shape at certain parts. Took her in, fed her with the same food we feed our dog (Kirkland brand) and your typical salmon/beef jerky treats.
A few days later we see a sign up looking for the pup, so we reunite with the owner. After telling her not to worry, she's been eating fine etc. The owners' first response was "OMG what did you feed her?? She's a vegetarian...!"
I found it really hard to bite my tongue but I didn't want to call the owner an idiot in front of my kids. But when we went back inside my daughter asked "If the dog is vegetarian.. why was she eating the treats?".
As long as my kids get it, that's enough for me.
