Anti-Zombie Rimfire (Theoretical Thread)

I always though that performance on bone (the stuff protecting the brain, lungs and heart) was more important than how much muscle/gelatin gets destroyed. Zombies or non-zombies.
Maybe the meat packing plant would have some bone simulant. I suspect bone would be hard to emulate, but it would be nice to be wrong.

Sorry you guys, .22LR is useless against zombies unless it shoots at like 1000rpm and u got like 20 100rnd mags. Their heads are decomposed mush so a little hole wont matter much... you need to destroy it with a shotgun or a hi-powered rifle. Machete. I wouldn't go lower than 9mm, and I wouldn't use 9mm unless they were really good hollow points to explode the head.

A high powered round would penetrate and then sail right through and out the other side, definitely fatal on a normal person, but not such a sure thing on a zombie (romero). What you want for zombies is a round which will enter at a relatively high velocity, but not have sufficient overpenetration to exit. That way the round does the maximum damage to the grey matter. An exit wound doesn't matter.

OK I'll bite. In Day of the Dead (Romero) the proved that zombies can function without most of their brains. The only part Zombies need is the primitive reptilian part of the brain called the basal ganglia. So a .22LR would have an awfully hard time hitting this part of the brain. A larger or faster bullet might do better with a shock wave in the jelly like brain. I also think you shouldn't aim for the forehead, but more for the nose to get at the ganglia in the lower centre part of the skull.

I'd figured the Cerebellum would be the best place to aim, as it's where snipers would shoot to drop the bad guy. But it seems the basal ganglia isn't far away from it either.

i would think i .22LR to the toque would ruin anyone or anything's day. i personally like the American Eagle .22LR copper plated, high velocity, hollow point stuff. excellent for hunting, and i'd assume it would be great for dumping zombies as well.

The problem is a high velocity round is more likely to just sail right through. If it misses the critical part, you're screwed. A .22, by virtue of the high velocity but lower overall penetration would enter through the skull and then proceed to break apart and tumble, increasing the likelihood of damaging the critical area.

Shotgun slugs are probably best though.

interesting thread. I don't know. I think the Grizz would be a necessity but my 597 would come along too. but 30-06 ammo is everywhere too, maybe that would a bit more effective and I wouldn't need to be nearly as close.

Shotguns are not my preferred zombie weapon. Slow to reload, only holds 5-9 shots then you have to reload and I can only carry about 200 12GA without getting overly heavy...

i'm actually wanting to do some terminal ballistics tests but i want something that would simulate the human skull in terms of fracturing and density. I'm thinking that mussel shells might be close but thats just guessing. i think it would be important to have something to simulate the skull too because it would cause the round to mushroom or fragment alot sooner, and could also cause alot of damage by fragmenting. i think a single shell would do because i only really need it for the entry and don't need to cover the whole area with it. just as long as i can get a hit on it, though i think having it stay firmly in place so that the whole shell doesn't get pushed in is important and an obstacle i'm not sure how i'll overcome. I also don't know how big a brain is. around the size of one of those water balloons?

If I have more than 8 zombies (I've got the winny 1300) within close proximity, or more than 200 zombies to take on between me and cover?.. and I'm alone....perhaps I'll just join the brain eating club...

I mean...seriously.

After 200 shotgun shells, my shoulder is going to hurt so damn bad...and I just KNOW I'd have torn my thumbnail completely off in all that exitement.

I mean...how bad can brains taste if they're so popular with the zombie set?

you wont even feel the burn from 200 shells if you're trying to evade the zombie horde. too much adrenaline
i'd still roll with a shotgun when it comes time for the zombpocalypse .
mag fed IMHO .
could even get away with a tube fed pump, depends if they are the new faster walking versions - Zomb2.0 or the original Zombadore64
