Anticosti

I know a few people who have gone. It's very much a "stalk and choose" hunt, with a chance to see multiple shootable bucks in one day. The challenge will be holding off long enough to enjoy the trip. Bring a camera.

My buddy, Bert, spent several months there drilling. Said there were not any really big deer, but they saw scores of deer every day.

I saw a report, and read a few articles on the fact that the deer are smaller. Most biologists seem to agree that the deer are smaller because they've adapted to the larger population. The larger population translates into less food for every individual. In order to sustain the species (on the island, at least), the individual must remain smaller. They were likening it to evolution, and also comparing it to the Galapagos Islands.

The same biologists were sounding the alarm bell about the Matane Wildlife reserve, where there is the highest number of Moose/sq.km in the province. IIRC, they were saying somewhere around 3 or 4 times more moose there, that anywhere else in Quebec. They are worried that the moose will start getting smaller, and staying smaller, in order to sustain the numbers. The argument on this one was on whether or not to issue more hunting tags.

last year the end of the season wasnt that good.
trophies are small but mostly people go there for the meat at least the way some told me because the trophies are not huge at all ...

Id try and find something on Manitoulin Island before I went to Anticosti. Thats just from what ive read and heard about anticosti,, and personal experience with manitoulin.
