Antique Colt 51 Navy

Very early 51 Colt Navy. Salvaged after probably 100 plus years of neglect. Good CGN'r came up with new cylinder for me to replace blown-out original and piece despite appearance cycles perfect and now shootable. Now know as the "Fairbairn Colt" due to inscription on the backstrap. Possibly from Owen Sound area. Serial #7572 indicates 1851 manufacture. Rare find and happy to have brought back to life. Any potential information on original owners history would be appreciated.View attachment 40495

Outstanding! Pardon me for saying your cylinder has a striking resemblance to one I sold a bit ago right down to the (thumprint?) discoloration below the "COLTS PATENT No (nothing,unissued?)" Does it have the Colt safety knubs between the cylinder nipple cutouts, metric or colt threads in said nipples? Just curious, the transaction was flawless BTW!

Good questions dixda. Nipples are 12/28 thread and safety nubs are there!

Yes, it is the same cylinder. It was not a fit for my Pietta, but has worked out perfectly on wr.sainsbury's original.

Excellent that the cylinder found its way to you! The nubs were a good safety feature as long as the V notch on the hammer face is not peened from dry firing. I see you have what looks like the original slim trigger.

The recess in the hammer face is still there and locks up the cylinder very well! Glad you found it originally and love the way things find their proper homes on this site.
