Antique Firearm Status Determination Flowchart & Antique Status Letter

I made up this flowchart based on SCDL's suggestion, which was a great idea. This may make it a little more straight forward in determining whether a firearm falls under Antique Status or not.

Important Update: Recently the RCMP had a "policy change" in that firearms that have been converted from calibers listed below to acceptable calibers are no longer being deregistered to antique status. This is obviously BS but is something to be aware of when buying a gun you intend to deregister.

This is a letter I wrote up with details from the NFA website written by the late David Tomlinson as well as the CFC website. It outlines the laws concerning antique guns, both original and black powder reproductions, and how they fall into that status. I converted it to a PDF file and uploaded it to a hoster that should allow immediate download. I edited it slightly to allow you to fill in the blanks by hand once printed.

I made an update to the chart. I realized I left out pre-1898 muzzle loading guns, and cleaned up the layout a little.

NEW UPDATE: EVEN If it was produced AFTER 1898 (or 100 years) and EVEN if it is a Flint lock, Side lock or Wheel Lock.....

Rifle = Antique
Handgun = NOT ANTIQUE.

I just go this info from the customs on Sept. 1, 2010. Was planning on bringing back a Flintlock Pistol, and was told no longer considered an antique.

They had a Chart from 2008.....

That's all on the flowchart.

I made another adjustment to the chart. Two people mentioned repeating rimfire rifles not being antique based on the chart when infact they are (only centerfire repeaters are registered). I separated the rimfire and centerfire sections, hopefully it is clearer now.

I also cleaned up the layout again.

My grandma some how got her hands on a repro flint lock rifle. she doesn't need to reg it by what the float chart says right? its sunday i'm recovering from fuzzy brain.

Correct, maybe you can sweet talk her into shooting it :D
Victoria has a BP club up on the Malahat , if you need a mentor.
Cheers nessy

at 85, she bruises to ez. she does wants to give it to me. I'm part of the vfgc. it would be nice to have a mentor and learn all about black powder rifling. So have I have been shooting pistols with the Action Shooter club just not ready to compete yet. Everyone I have met there have been nice, and willing to help new Shooters. Every time I go i learn alot.
I will give you a pm in the next few weeks. Grandma's working me to the bone before she gives it up.. hehe Smart lady.

Anyone that has a .pdf writer can do it. I suggest you date it or put a revision number on it so peope can tell if they have the latest one. By the way thank you for the excellent work.

I am new to firearms. What does it mean if an antique handgun doesn't need to be licensed?

Does it mean it doesn't require an ATT?
Does it mean it can be generally fired on crownland?
Does it mean that I don't need a RPAL to own and shoot an antique handgun?

Anything else I missed?
