The problem with getting an opinion here, is I need a quote for insurance. I think this old Winchester that I inherited is worth a lot of money.

Value greatly depends on condition and model, there are a lot of folks on this site with the knowledge to help you so post some pictures and details then wait.

OK. Let's try that. The rifle is a model 1886, built in 1906, chambered for 33 wcf. It is a take down model, pistol grip, checkered, engraved, with aperture rear sight. The bluing is good, engraving is clear, it shoots pretty good. The butt stock was broken, back in the 30's when it fell off the sleigh, and got rub over by a runner. It was repaired with some glue and 3 bolts. I know that impacts it value, but doesn't matter to us. It was my grandfather's rifle, and he carried it for 40 years and fed the family with it. The broken stock is just another piece of history to us.

Gun Values by Gun Digest allows you to pay for a single online valuation I believe, or can go with a subscription. Valuation is in USD, but that can be converted. Should work for insurance. Experts on here will give you a more accurate valuation, but your insurance provider will not likely accept that.
you need to save a photo in Imgr which is a free site then copy and paste the file info from Imgr to here. Basically write your post, save it, go to Imgr and click on the thumbnail and click on one of the links at the bottom of the choices, then go back to gunnutz and click on edit your saved posting and control V to paste it and then save

Once you have your photos uploaded to Imgr, here's what you do:
1. Put the cursor on the photo you want to post. You will see a pencil & a trash can.
2. Click on the pencil.
3. Click on "View images"
4. Select "Generate Image Links"
5. Click on "Done" A square appears.
6. Click on "Link" .....go down to BBC Code ( Message boards) and select it.
7. Click on "Original Image" and select "Large Thumbnail"
8. Right click and "Copy"
9. Right click and "Paste" your photo(s)
On my computer, I open 2 windows, one on CGN the other on Imgur.
Others here may have a shorter way to post, but this is what works for me.
Not to rain on anyone's parade...but taking prices from members on here being if they're accurate or not... to your insurance company ain't gonna cut it.

Based on what I've seen on other old 1886 Winchester's for sale, I've seen prices anywhere from $1500 to 4500 depending on chambering. But as your stock had an old repair to it I'd suggest towards the low end. But yes, get a professional appraisal. Maybe someone at Rusty Wood trading co? They deal a lot in antique guns, especially cowboy variants.

If Bud works out then great, but I would also suggest talking to Chuck at Proline in Calgary, he's knowledgeable on Winchesters and I think can even give you a written appraisal, dont quote me on that, but no harm in asking.
