I noticed in the Thursday edition of the Toronto STar, March 9, that a 19 year old fellow was arrested for having child ####. So far so good. Then I noticed the photo of the handgun that the police seized. The reporter identifies it as a ".44 calibre Winchester", but it looks like a top break S&W Third Model DA, probably in .44 Russian. If so, that handgun is an antique under Canadian law.
What concerns me is that, unless the gun was stolen, or used in a crime (and I doubt he was using it for kiddie ####), it should not be seized. I think we need to get a gun lawyer in on this. I've got zero sympathy for perverts, but I don't like to see antique handguns get mixed up in something that they have not actually been used in. I wonder if the perv had any ammo for it?
Best scenario is that it was stolen and will be returned to its rightful owner. Anyone had a S&W Third Model DA .44 Russian stolen recently?
