I was reading on this site a few people were saying with an antique handgun you can shoot it in the bush without a wilderness carry. on the phone with the local hunting store the guy says that if you can still buy ammo for the gun it is still classified as a restricted. can anyone here clear this up for me?

thanks

He doesn't know what he's talking about. You can still buy 455 Webley (Fiocchi) in some stores, but Mark 1 Webleys in that caliber are still antique. Go to the antique forum and read the regs - and don't believe 1/2 what you hear in most gun stores.

if it's built before 1898 ( or is it 1899 ?) ..... and not chambered in several of the listed "no go " cartridges , your good to go .

it doesn't matter if if the ammo is comercialy available or not .

take 41 colt for example , to my knowledge no one makes it right now , and a gun chambered in it can be have antique status .

but what happens if remington decides to produce 41 colt amunition next week ?

it is still an antique , but now with comercially available ammo .
