what caliber is this gun? looks nice. I really like old European revolvers. Especially shooters...

11mm French ordnance AKA 11x17.8mmR
Actually the cylinder can take brass up to 22mm long as intended by the desinger of the gun. The French army, upon adopting the gun, decided to shorten the cartridge for unknown reason.
A real blast to shoot.
I dont have pics of how it looked before but it wasnt nice. All brown patina. I decided to clean it up because this gun was adopted ''in the white'' back then. I didn't polish anything not to fainth the markings.

Thanks for the remark

I am having a hard time finding any information on this gun that was passed down to me and was wondering if anyone could knows anything aboout it. It is an L.C. Smith double hammer with a damascus barrel. ser. # 9021

I am new to the site and apparently I cannot post photos yet.

Belgian Martini Henry Cavalry Carbine

My second most expensive impulse buy, haven't fondled much due to guilt and haven't made it go bang since I've yet to locate brass.

(pic belongs to IMA from where I bought it)

Where can one buy .577/.450 brass in Canada?

I got two 1892 french service revolver made in 1896 and 1897 respectively. Speaking of which I want to off load one. Looking for 1050$. Anyone interested?

Just got this Colt 1860 Army yesterday, dates to 1862 so it is 150 years old and I must say it looks it.
All numbers match and it has a dark overall patina (rust and pitting). The action works great with a solid lock-up and the bore is fairly good except near the muzzle which is dark.
A faint cartouche is visible on the right grip and it has four notches on the left grip near the trigger guard, not sure what these indicate. A repair in this area has partly obliterated one of the notches.

It appears to be in shooting condition...nipples look good and as I mentioned the action is solid. I have a couple of other .44's of modern manufacture so I have all the stuff needed to shoot this one.
I will carefully inspect the cylinder and barrel and if it checks out O.K. I will shoot it.
oldiron..what would you recommend as a safe load for this old gun???

Full:D:D (after you inspect).

Looks like a great place to start. And many more to come. Should be a hand full to shoot with a shorter barrel. I see lead peeking out on the first pic. Ready to go.
