antique revolver ref book

I'm trying to wade into the world of antique shootable revolvers. Is there a bible out there on them or at least a couple of reasonably good ref books? I know it's pretty broad subject.

Flayderman's guide to antique prices would certainly be a good reference; would give an idea of US values, and certainly lists many different makes and models. Thin on British and European pieces. There are reference books dealing with specific makes, Colts through suicide specials, through Remingtons, etc, and some relating more to the 19th century revolvers of the old west.

Unfortunately, the European pieces are mostly what can be legally owned and shot in Canada.
Majority of American antiques are in the non-antique calibres: 32, 38, 44. Zhuk's illustrated encyclopedia of handguns comes to mind, but I personally found it incomplete to a great measure.

It probably would not hurt to pick up a copy of "The Standard Directory of Proof Marks" by Wirnsberger. In the case of european guns, it allows you to figure out the country of origin which can be important in identifying it and from there its years of production. It would also pay to have a copy of "Cartridges of the World" so that you can go from chamber and bore dimensions to the cartridge it is chambered for.

Great book!, but does not cover much as far as older guns/antiques.

I have Hand guns of the word By Edward C. Ezell good book, guides on pricing help. lots of gun pimps at the shows with inflated prices . educate your self and have fun.

There is no one book on Antique revolvers! be prepared to buy a bunch!
I just bought the Bruce reinhart Webley book on Gun broker for $120 shipped and that was a good deal on a minty Orignal.

The webley story you can get for $45 at Dixie gun works is a good book to.
I think i have about 18 Books just on antique Revolvers and theres still room for more.
heres about the best book yet and the frist one i bought with alot of great all colour pictures and i highly recomend it to new comers go on ebay and buy

I know you had the Reinhart book cause you photocopyed all the WG section and mailed it to me awhile back and cause of that i was able to deregister that model 1896 WG Target i bought Registered.
I found a couple good Dateing arguements in that WG section.
I figgered it was time to bite the bullet and buy one. it was on Gun Broker and looks in new condition.
Cant wait to read the Whole book

I am always looking for more books i have Joel Blacks Tranter book (its EX with full colour pictures) and will get his web book when its done to.
