Personally I think the drinking water comment was uncalled for and in sad taste.
I haven't looked in on this thread for a few days and coming back to it I ended up going through it from beginning to end. After reading it I still feel the same as when I commented and more so in that I think that many of us who have knowledge in a particular field of firearms should maybe quit offering to help with gun values?
Case in point, I received a PM a few weeks ago from a fellow who was curious about a valuation of his model 12. He wanted to know how much I had sold one I had posted for sale and he sent a picture of what he had. I kindly explained what he had and what I felt or at the risk of sounding cocky knew the value of what he was going to post for sale. I explained as best I could without writing a book the differences between his gun and the one I sold in terms of collectibility and what interested buyers would be looking for based on the differences in our guns. I gave him the high end of an asking price to start with and the lower end of acceptability with offers. He was quick to respond back and forth several times over the next few messages and I offered that instead of just accepting my opinion to go online or find some books and do research on the firearms that interested him and learn as much as possible. If nothing else he would likely find the history very interesting at the very least and he'd learn quite a bit in the process which would aid with transactions either purchasing, selling or both in determining which models were more sought after and collectible. I told him he had a nice condition plain jane "shooter" and that it would appeal to someone who wanted just that and nothing else.
A few days later he posted the gun for sale at exactly double the high end price of what it would likely fetch to the right buyer at proper market value. Two BTT's later with no takers I took it upon myself to suggest to him he may wait a long, long time to fetch what he was asking if ever. He never did respond but his next BTT's his prices started dropping significantly. Eventually he must have gotten an offer he was happy with as he posted the gun sold. As you'll notice I never posted his name or his ad as I feel that is not the correct thing to do. He'll know who he is if he reads this as will others who have done the same. I personally wouldn't want to sabotage someones ad regardless if it's a long shot trying to achieve their end goal asking price. It's up to them to learn the hard way should they choose that route.
That along with all these "what's the value of my gun?" threads have had me thinking of late I won't be offering advice any longer. Usually these posters are folks that contribute nothing to the forum community in terms of education or history of guns. They are here for years, make one post a year or a decade then ask for advice on a gun they want to sell and when offered good sage advice don't like what they have heard.
I had interest in purchasing a SxS for a long time now and sat and read countless hours of posts by the collectors in here and other forums their threads and posts and gleaned as much information as I could to aid me in the decision making process. When something came available rather than post pictures or worst yet ask a value based on an extremely uninformative description I picked up the phone and texted pictures and asked for advice from the fellow I was going to send the gun to for a service and check over his thoughts on if the asking price was in the correct range based on the condition and specs. I suspected and my suspicions were confirmed that he indeed knew the gun having restocked it and after his advice I picked up the phone yet again and bought the gun. Now after having it restored and getting a letter of authentication to verify the factory order and specifications should I ever wish to sell it I sure as heck would not come on here and ask for a value but rather I would go online, research other guns of the same model, grade and approximate era and based on condition of those that have sold or are for sale come up with an average and set my asking price and go from there BUT if I did decide to solicit the advice of those in the know in here on that type of gun I would surely be 100% confident in that they are offering good sage advice and would not hesitate to base my asking price on their valuations.
I think it's high time for a separate sub-forum for those seeking advice on gun values so that it does not interfere in this forums intended purpose of sharing information and histories. I think putting up "whats my gun worth?" threads is taking away or souring a good sub-forum.
And to those long lurking posters who never post anything going forward please do not PM any longer for sales advice. If you have a genuine interest in a particular make and model of gun we both have interest in I would be happy to discuss and trade what limited knowledge I have and I am always interested in learning more from others but I am no longer offering to help with your valuations.

Spank, the way i see it an item is of value to its beholder, however im never against opinion,
But what i am and always will be against is negative detracting comments.

Orig...unrestored cond is really not an easy feat, as everyone knows...they were the working mans gun.

His 18$ sxs...so this particular gun would draw conclusions that it was specially ordered
As such...maybe its a " one off " as ive had multiple neuman guns...but never with gold.

i can't speak for anyone who messaged you but I don't think anyone who posted thought you were trying to pull a fast one on anyone. I certainly didn't. Not understanding the potential value (and everything is worth whatever someone will pay you) as defined by the market and trying to fake someone out are two very different things. I think, as Spank alluded to, most of us are genuinely trying to offer good advice, when asked for it. (I clearly recognize you didn't ask for advice from the board). And its frustrating to spend the time, as Spank said, explaining that advice, only to see it utterly ignored.

Pistols were fetching before handguns were froze ... You couldn't give one away... Now...a Webley mark 2 sells for 2500$
Up to 4500$....because they are the only pistols exempt from rule's so....now we have a new market.
