Hey guyz,

I just baught two old shotgun. I don't know a lot about them and hope someone can help me about the story/value.

The first one is a Westley richard in 2 gauge. I've tied to find come information for this caliber from this compagny but i've find nothing. (I will try to contact the compagnie soon)

The second one it is marked Chesapeake Gun club and it is in 4 gauge.

Does anybody has already somthing like that?

I'll send you some picture when i'll receive it.

Thanks for your helps

Totally tagging this for interest, Westley Richards could probably give you some info on your gun so that's the right track there.

I remember reading somewhere about a gun club in the US Midwest that had an old punt gun in their clubhouse trophy case and brought it out for special shoots back in the 60s/70s, I would be suspicious that your gun could be similar to this as a sort of club presentation piece, I will see if I can find the web article again.

I sold a bunch of old doubles... my son picked out one with an Express Ladder...which turned out to be a ML Cape rifle...58 x 12 gauge. The end of the bbl had almost no rifling almost like a reverse gain twist...boro-scope shows good rifling.
Old doubles can be interesting...still got a tired old 14 ga breechloader down there

Westley Richards, or W Richards?
Westley Richards was a top line British gunmaker. Markings and address will be very definitive.
W Richards could be William Richards, a fine English maker.
A host of Belgian shotguns are marked Richards or W Richards in an attempt to tag along with a well known name.
2 and 4 gauge guns are not common. Is the Chesapeake Gun Club a brand name or an ownership mark?
It would really help if you could get photos.

I'll receive the 4 gauge with a shell of brass wich is still full. I'll send you a picture of the diameter with a gauge

I look forward to seeing the photos of the guns and the shell. I have seen a few punt guns but they were much larger. A friend owned and shot a few times, a single barrel 4 guage (with a 1" bore) and I have a 5 guage smooth rifle (.95" bore) but those are the only really large shoulder fired guns I have seen

cheers mooncoon

Couple of serious waterfowlers!
From the one photo, they look as if they have real potential.

If the Westley Richards is marked as such with an address on the top of the barrel or rib it is probably a product of the well known English maker. Good photos of all the barrel markings including the proof marks would probably make this clear. W. Richards of Liverpool also made fine guns but isn't as famous. Many cheap Belgian imports were also marked with the Williams name but lack the complete first name and address. They are generally of very inferior quality. If you have a Westley Richards gun and it has a legible serial number you can inquire of the company and get an authentication certificate and a copy of the ledger for this particular gun, mailed to you. I believe they charge $100 US for this service. Think this is too expensive? Price out their guns, you're playing in the big boy's yard here.

Agree with above. Also I have a cheap old hammer double marked "Pemeerton Gun Club" ,,,,,, no real value I think.

I agree wholeheartedly there was market influence to increase sales on the backs of more prestigious gunmaking companies. But please don't forget that standards of 'cheap firearms' have fallen off the mountain too numerous times.
These cheap guns were almost totally handmade by those that knew how to make two side by side barrels from twisted bits of metal. Then someone carded the soldered barrels and another skilled worker fitted the lockwork.
These are almost forgotten skills.
