so why are they so darn expensive?
is it because they are antique status?
i can see old single action colts being up there in price because of their collector value but why are some of these old revolvers in mediocre condition so expensive?
i can buy a brand new S&W 686 for half the price of some of these old "antiques"
sure it has to be registered but so what.
can someone educate me on this.
thanks
Dan.

Maybe the value for some gets carried away. Limited supply, ability to shoot without transport papers give them appeal. Some of these revolvers like the old Colts, Remingtons and Smith & Wesson's have similar good value on both sides of the border, so its not just the fact they are unregistered for those guns. They are pretty cool.

Historical value for some of them, some antiques come with a hell of a story and the paper work to back it.

Well for one thing they don't make them any more. And every year there are likely fewer due to various losses. You can't say the same for S&W 686 revolvers. Rarity affects prices.

how much would you pay to pack a hand gun anywhere you can pack a nonrestricted without going through any red tape at all ???? ........

heck you don't even need a pal .

what you do need is enough cash to buy one , and the skills to build your own ammo , nothing more .

the current prices reflect what many people are willing to pay .

Well what defines an antique status revolver?
I have seen some that are chambered in calibers that are readily
Available such as 38 special etc.
Ok they are pre whatever the date is but it's not like you can't get ammo.

Here is a picture of my latest antique... a Colt 1849 Pocket .31 cal cap and ball made in 1863. Shown with it are a ball and bullet mould made about the same time and a reproduction powder flask and cap tin.
I could have bought a very good modern gun for the same money but this one doesn't need to be locked away in a gun safe with a trigger lock, I can leave it on the coffee table or hang it on the wall. After doing a bit of work it is now in shooting condition and I am going to take it to the range on the weekend.
