My buddy brought his new purchase out on our last deer outing, a Zoli 16 gauge side by side 16 gauge.

We found some tree planter's boxes out in a slash and set them up and he took a couple shots to see how it shot, then handed the gun over to me.

It's a light shot gun and the recoil drove the trigger guard back against my fingers on the so hard that it just about skinned my knuckles.

I'm used to single trigger pumps and autos but have shot single shot and a bolt action shotguns before but boy, that was a surprise. I won't be buying one of those any time soon.

Not uncommon. I used one of my SxS's a bit duck hunting this fall. After a box of shells I no longer wanted to pull the trigger because the guard was slamming my finger. However, a piece of foam or rubber or leather wrapped around the guard will take care of that. There are gizmos you can buy for that as well.

The recoil is not typically the aspect that keeps people from buying Zolis.

I've shot a few, and while I've never had the issue you describe (also only shot their O/Us), they don't fit me as well, so I didn't buy one.
