Any .22 Pistols worth buying? I'm reading mixed reviews. Are they all junk?

I have a P22 and it is a fantastic. I polished the feed ramp when I bought it and have had no issues with bulk jacketed ammo, including cheap stuff.

The only issues I have ever had is when someone gave me a box of dirt cheap crap ammo and that didn't feed.

Not sure where this hating is coming from but I have cycled hundreds and hundreds of rounds through it with no problems.

I'm using my Dad's Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece with a 6-inch barrel. He bought it back in the 1960s, second-hand.

It is accurate enough to take .308 cases off a bunker 15 yards away.... and keep doing it all day long.

BTW, it hasn't jammed yet.

I'm waiting.

Another vote for the GSG 1911

I bought mine from Dlask, got the trigger job and two extra mags.

So far I am really enjoying it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have a Browning Buckmark Field & GSG1911 like them both and I'm in the market for another 1911 upper kit, STI conversion or Kimber .22 kit. also might go for a Issc - m22 heard some good things about it.

I'm definitely leaning towards the GSG 1911 22lr if I can find it anywhere. I'm still a little ways off from buying anything. I still want to try other pistols. Thanks for the replies.

So the GSG, Ruger and S&W 22a seem to be highly rated by you guys. They are all around the same price range. I'll check them out.

sorry if its been said, but what about a $150 Norinco Woodsman? Hear nothing but good reviews... Appearently it can use any type of ammo without jamming aswell. and is accurate. I got the chance it hold one and its small like the P22, its all metal aswell.

It's cheap but I don't find the Norinco Woodsman appealing at all. Not sure if the appearance should factor in, but I don't think I'm going to consider it.

This is a newbie question, but is there a 22lr pistol worth buying? I'm reading many reviews and it seems that many of these are problematic. Is it the 22lr round that is problematic or is it the pistols? I'm going to buy my first 2 pistols in the next couple months and I was planning on getting a 1911 and an inexpensive but dependable 22 pistol to hone my skills and not break the bank.

My friend and I rented a few guns at the range, he rented a Walther or Sig 22 (don't remember which) and it jammed up on him twice! The range guys even warned us that they might jam.

So if anyone has any reviews or comments on these 22's they would be much appreciated.

S&W 22A
Ruger Mark III
Berretta U22 Neos
Sig Misquito (a little more than I want to spend)
Walther P22 (a little more than I want to spend)
Other examples you may have...

Or just get an inexpensive 9mm and a nice 45? Any input?

If you are set to get a 1911 in .45ACP you might want to consider a GSG 1911 .22lr pistol for your .22 then as well. I have one & it shoots like a champ.

Other than that, I can recommend the Ruger .22 pistols as well. I also have a Ruger MkII with the 5.5" bull barrel and before I got the GSG the Ruger pretty much made every range trip out, too. Not it's the GSG..... :D

NAA.

I had Ruger MKI and Browning Buckmark pistols and still have a S&W 17-3 revolver.

They are/were all reliable and boringly accurate with no reliability issues when fed decent ammo or ammo they like/d.

Ruger 22/45, blued, 5.5" bull barrel: $340.00 out the door @ Epp's this past summer. Includes 2 mags. and a scope mount. Eats cheap Winchester 555 bulk packs, $19.99 @ wally world; 2500 rounds later, not even a burp or a hickup from the gun. Good, cheap, reliable, with 1911 grip angle and controls. First time disassembly can be a bit tricky, but not too bad, then it's easy (just spray it with G96 I was told and yep it works). My first pistol; taught 3 grandkids and my wife how to shoot with it and we're all still learning but we're all very pleased with the gun. The gun is easily capable of 10 shots into a 2" circle @ 25 yds., I'm getting there slowly...:D practice, practice

Just got back from the range - first time out with my new Dlask worked GSG 1911.

All I can say is: WOW!. What an excellent value. 150 rounds of various .22 ammo and no failures - related to ammo. There was one FTF... That was because my right thumb had a little too much contact with the slide (I use a high grip on a 1911 and my right thumb rests on the safety and contacts the slide... I guess it's not an issue for .45 ACP).

It currently prints about 5" high at 25m, so I will changing out the front sight.

The trigger is fantastic. 3-3.5# with a very clean break.

I'm looking forward to shooting this over the winter.

As an added bonus: these are cheap enough to buy more than one... I'm giving my dad one for Christmas...
