Hello gun nutz,

Are there any rifles available in Canada clambering the 5.45x39 round? Is there any available surplus ammo floating around?. I ask this because i have never seen any ammo or rifles on the EE or in stores yet they seem common in the US.
Thanks for the input

The most common platform for the 5.45 is the AK so that's why there's no market here. There's rumours of a 5.45 CZ-858 and the Tavor has started production in 5.45 as well, but either one would have to be jointly imported with the ammunition to appeal to buyers.

It will happen eventually, 7.62x39 surplus will run dry and we'll all be looking for something to fill the void.

And the ex-Soviets will see the benefits of using bigger projectiles again, switch to something in the 6.something mm ballpark and there will be plenty of milsurp 5.45x39 ;)

Century imported some bolt action rifles back in the early to mid 1990's, with RWS made ammo when they were in Canada.

Lever Arms brought some CA AK 74's in back in the late 1980's. They were unrestricted at the time (guess what? none have ever been used in a crime). Anyways, ammo wasn't available at the time, which made buying one mostly an appeal for collectors.

I know of at least one person who recalibered a rifle to that caliber. Although obscure in Kanada, it's a fun round to shoot.
