Anybody stocking the CZ550 FS in this caliber?

Wolverine Supplies had one a few months ago and can order one in within a couple weeks if it is no longer in stock.

Isn't it amazing how those guys back 100+ years ago could come up with a round as durable and flexible as the 9,3X62?!?!:p

You nailed it with this one! ;)

Mr. Bock did a great job of making a heavy hitter available to the average African farmer in a compact affordable package as compared to what the Brits were coming out with then.

I haven't hit any game with my 9,3x62 but the 9,3x57 hits all out of proportion to the way it looks.

My ZG47 is fitted up with a Pakymar decelarator which really helps tame the recoil. It came with a Ziess DDR scope but so far I haven't had much fun using it. The coarse German post reticle is quite challenging to try and print tight groups with. Next time out it will wear my VX III.

Has anyone found any 320gr bullets this side of the border?

I need to try some, just because......

I have some 320 gr Woodleighs (soft and solid) coming in from Epps - it shold only be a couple of more months (hopefully) I want to try them in my 9.3 x 62 swiss arms (little groups with nosler or barnes tsx 286 gr at 2350 ft/s) and my brno o/u 9.3 x 74 R -- each bbl prints cloverleaves - but they are always 3-6 inchs vertical . I know i need more speed to close the gap, which means use a lighter bullet, but I just like the heavier bullets in the doubles.

This caliber hits with authority and while it does have some kick - you dont feel it, more like a slightly aneimic .375 hh push. When you think that in the 9.3 x 62 you can have a 270 gr at near 2500 ft/s with about 66 gr powder --- that is quite efficient. The .358 win is one of the other few calibers that I think is more efficient.

Thanks farshot, I will check them out!:D

I caught Jack and Gus enjoying the new factory loaded Norma's the other day, thought you guy's might like to enjoy the festivities.

How do you like the 9.3x57 in the 96 action?

I think they work just fine. The Swedes never differentiated between 96 framed guns and 98 framed guns in regards to hotter loads and such, so you'll find they are a great hunting gun. Some folks don't care for #### on closing, but I never really saw any practical difference between the two. With Norma/RWS loads or like pressure handloads, they work great. - dan

It looks like Accuracy plus is a Canuck distributor for the Woodleighs too. FYI

They have .biz at the end of their web addy.;)

Epps also has the 9,3x62 brass listed on their website!:)

Noel,

What a great lineup!! The only ones missing are the 9,3X64 and 9,3X74R, and I'll forgive you for that.;)

I have a supply of both the 320 PP and 320 FMJ Woodleighs to try in my 9,3X62 and the Tikka 9,3X74R. They were slated to dispatch a cape buffalo in Tanzania-Selous R2 & R4 blocks this September, but health and surgery put the kaibosh on all that. Maybe next year... I still need to see if these loooooong bullets stabilize OK. Has anyone tried the 320s yet?

Thanks! I would put the Brenneke and the X72 in the line up if I had them, My collection has only been found to be missing alot of metrics as of last year!

I haven't tried any heavier than 270gr yet. The 250gr don't seem to group very tight so far, nor do the 232gr Oryx. 1 1/2" groups if I am lucky.

The 270's are a bit better so I hope it tosses the heavies well.

Noel,

I don't know the laws regarding ammo & components through the mail, but I can send you a 9,3X72R and a 9,3X74R for your collection. If you have the 9,3X62 dies, you can simply neck size the brass and load your own 9,3X74R. I could run the 9,3X72R through the dies to where you could push the bullet in and crimp with the 9,3X62 die. Would you want a couple of brass??

9.3x62!!!!

Hi Guys,

I have a genuine M96 (Mod. 649, no thumb notch) 9.3X62, in very, very good shape.
If you are looking for brass, bullets etc, give a try to Dave at BC Redneck... he carries the PPU line (prvi Partizan), much cheaper than the other stuff.
Their 285 grainer is just what you want for our beasts, here. Makes a VERY good job on black bear, just drops it dead (with good shot placement, of course).
I also really like the 270 Speer, with Lapua brass.

Well guys I just recieved the first 50 290gr cast gas checked 9.3 bullets done for me to test by a really nice fellow by the name of Doug in Duncan BC who purchased moulds and sizing dies in order to help me out. Im gonna try em out at the Chilliwack fish and game club next week in a 9.3x57 and my 9.3x62. If you like I'll post the results and his contact info after Im done testing them and you can order some yourselves.
Dave

Noel so far he only has moulds for the 290 gc though I suppose if there was enough demand he may be able to procure other moulds, I think the x57's especially would work with this size projectile at gas checked velocities and the scuttlebutt has it the PP285 gr supply may be drying up soon. Its a double lube groove round nose gas checked bullet and sure looks good anyways. I'll keep you posted

Ive got a bunch loaded , and some pics taken. Tomorow is range day , if any of you guys want Dougs contact info to order some PM me and I'll pass it along

Hi Dave,
I have another fellow CGN member casting some for me. I will give his a try. Not sure if he wants all the world to know in case he cannot keep up with the demand or even want to for that matter. I will try to post results when they come in. It may not be for awhile yet.

Well guys, as promised some data coming your way
a couple of lessons re-learned too dohhhh!!!
First off dont seat gas checked bullets below the bottleneck of the case otherwise the gas check comes off and blows a hole in your chronograph!:(

Lesson two is always have backup iron sights on your rifle so when your scope post breaks and just lies there on the side you have a plan B:rolleyes:

Other than those couple of minor issues it was a nice day to do some shooting:D
Rifle a is a 9.3x57 husky in a ramline stock 1941 vintage
Rifle b is a 9.3x57 husky in a wood stock unknown vintage

290 LGC 13.0 Unique Fed 210 WW8x57Case

Rifle A Rifle B
1253 1274
1255 1280
1243 1289
1257 1260
1243 1263 Rifle B showed good accuracy with a 1.1 inch 5 shot group at
25 Yards, Rifle A was abysmal

290 LGC 42.0 H335 Fed210 WW case
1915 1957
1945 1929
1952 1990
290 LGC 42 IMR 3031
2032
2023
2022
Accuracy was nothing to write home about and I believe the velocity was too high
I would expect better accuracy around the 16-1700 fps mark
Next tests will be at lower velocities

Gonna have to wait till i can fit a new chrony into the budjet though.
If anyone can post some pics I have em , let me know

I had great luck with both my FN 98 husky's in 8x57 with the first group I shot with one coming in at the 1" mark at 100 yds The next shot the scope post in the old K3 broke ending the testing session, velocities with the 195 hornadys were 2625-2650 with 50 gr of RL-15 and no pressure signs . The rifle with the williams reciever sight also shoots great , just needs a higher front sight as its 4 1/2 high at 100yds at the lowest rear sight setting.
