Any advice?

Hey there!
I am new to this site and am possibly looking to buy a couple guns in the not too distant future. I would welcome any advice that anyone has. I am looking for a rifle that would pretty much do everything in the right hands - the best all round rifle for limited budgets. What styles, calibers, models and brands are good? What should I stay away from? Any advice that you experienced people can give me will be greatly appreciated:).

Hello and welcome. I'm not much when it comes to rifles, but I think "do everytyhing" covers a bit too much ground. If you want to shoot woodchucks and gophers that's one thing. If you want to shoot moose that's another. When I did do some rifle shooting I had a .308 Sako (bolt) with a Sheperd variable telescope, a .250 Savage (lever) and a .22LR Armalite (semi-auto). You'll find lots of other (better) opinions. However, this question is probably better posed in the "general firearms discussion" or the "shooting and hunting" sections. I think this is supposed to be just for greetings.

Welcome aboard!! :D
While there will be as many responses to your question as there are calibres, then those who say no such firearm/cartridge exists... let me start the ball rolling with my opinion.
A nice, sporterized Swedish mauser in 6.5X55.
Inexpensive to buy, as accurate a round as there is out there, will take any game in Canada (unless you're after grizzlies :runaway:) and, the nicest thing... very acceptable recoil.
If you decide to take up reloading, you can really make these babies sing!
Good luck and welcome to the obsession!
(One of the site sponsors, T.E.C., usually has a nice selection!)
