My dad has collected cartridges for the last couple decades and has a pretty decent collection put together. He likes to just have one of each cartridge out there. This past weekend I went through his collection and made a pretty long list of what he is missing.

Is there a place out there that will sell single cartridges for specific calibers?

Your best bet would be gun shows. Usually has at least one table with single cartridges of all sorts there. Might take some time to go through as while they are nicely laid out, they are not sorted.

Other option is post your list on a ad on the EE, Someone might have what you are looking for.

The last couple of gun shows I went to in Saskatoon and Martinsville had tables with quite a variety of different cartridges for sale. One gentleman at the Martinsville show had a set of three different caliber pin fire cartridges. I didn't look at the price though.

I have a bit of a collection and got several cartridges from some members of one of the clubs I belong to. We trade or give away spares when we have them. I also got several interesting cartridges from the clubs misfire container. When I was on the executive. I was amazed at the amount of unfired ammunition that gets tossed in there.

Does your dad set up at gun shows? I was travelling through Saskatchewan fall 2015 driving down the yellowhead...coming back from family vacation...seen a sign for a gun show figured it'd be be a good second breakfast and leg stretch/gab session lol. I think it was in Battlefords? Anyways there was a guy there with a real nice "one of everything" cartridge collection but I had something he needed. Problem was everything I had with me had incorrect head stamps on them as I form brass for my needs. I offered to mail the correct brass but misplaced the guys card. If that's your dad please pm me.

I too collect cartridges of all kinds ,nothing specific ,anything I can get my hands on......new,old,obsolete ,wildcats etc. I usually try to get at least 3 examples of each, as one gets the headstamp cut off for display, one full round and the bullet/bullets and sometimes the empty brass ,this gives a good reference of the type of cartridge being displayed.Of course I would never cut off headstamps from rare examples, probably get tarred and feathered for that.

I used to get deact. cartridges from Ammo One in the US about 6 years ago ,but he stopped shipping to Canada (not sure how he got away with it in the first place ?) but he had/has some good stuff.

Apoc69 (forum member) has a list of a few things on the "reloading/ammo EE ,we exchange stuff all the time (lives close by, very nice fellow)

As mentioned ,gun shows are a good bet, I do that all the time, just need to know what you need or want (bring a list)and take your time. Some vendors just have a big bin full of everything (usually common stuff ,but if you need just a few bullets to complete a full round, and you have a means to pull them, that`s helpful, and usually get a good price for volume) Other vendors will have more specific cartridges for sale ,intended for collectors.......bring a fat wallet.

Sometimes I`ll see brass for sale on the EE (small quantities) and purchase those and slap in my own caliber specific bullets in them, the remainder I can sometimes sell or swap at gun shows.

There are some really nice ,helpful folks here on CGN that have helped me out in my quest ,and keep in touch with them in case they come up with something new that I can use in my collection.I always pay a finders fee and pay what they need for their supplies and time and trouble......I don`t ask for free stuff ,even if offered.

If I ever complete my collection (within reason...need some big bore stuff) I will display my collection in my gun room ,in a large shadow box frame (I used to be a picture framer)........gonna be a HUGE frame...LOL

Good luck and happy collecting.

****always looking for different cartridges*****

Hah! Good luck with that. It is near to impossible to complete any collection of cartridges, of any type or caliber. Even if by some miracle you happened to get one of each ever made to-date there are new ones coming out and being identified every month. It is a never-finished, unending quest.
Here's one small example. I want to get all examples of the 6.5mm Luxemburg round. There are only 4; ball, blank, dummy, short range. Over many years I have gotten 3, for $100 to $300 each. I just found a blank in an auction and am sure it will cost me plenty to stay in the game. And I only collect post-1880 metric military under .50 cal.
Point is, you might someday put together a great collection, but you will never "complete" a cartridge collection.

My dad has never set up at any gun shows. He doesn't really collect many of the really old cartridges or from other countries. He has most of the older stuff he wants, its just the newer stuff that has come out in the last 10 years and lots of the big bore stuff. We've looking at some gun shows but haven't really found many people who are willing to sell just one round of a certain cartridge.

Ammo One was a wocked resource, when it was available to us. Now I just hunt at gun shows.

Yup, got some nice stuff from him.He used to mark his packages as "brass figures"

I`d love to go to the St. Louis cartridge show ,but I`d probably go broke LOL

There`s the local Brandon gun show in December ,I hear good things about that one ,so I plan on making the 2 1/2 drive.

Yah, I know ! LOL

But my collection is pretty eclectic ,no special purpose or theme ,just want to cover a broad range of cartridges and make a display for "ye olde gun room".

You should go to St. Louis, it is an unbelievable experience for anyone interested in cartridges. Just be warned, it can be painful and expensive. I needed wheels on my chin the first time I went to the Chicago show, the predecessor to St. Louis. In order to go, I had to promise my wife I would only eat the Poptarts I brought and cans of Coke. Even then I forgot to eat and drink and suffered through headaches and painful feet. It was all worth it. I've only missed 2 I think in the last 20 years. Good bunch of Canadians there.

Ammo collecting has been a passion ( addiction)of mine for the last 10 years and yes its gotten more expensive ( insanely so) as my collection has expanded. Allways on the lookout (hunt) for anything ammo related. Lilliputians up to land mines but I truly try and keep it under 40 mm. African big game ,50 bmgs, shot shells ( all gauges),20mm,anti armour, metrics,Allied and axis calibers,Obsolete, dummys /training,Wildcats,special Purpose,Winchester, flares and just about anything weird . As of yet I haven't got in to head stamps or Specialize into any 1 caliber. Clips and loaders have come on the radar as of late ( to contain and group ). Just noticed yesterday that my floor has developed a sag from the weight ( tool chests and ammo cans) going to have to consider how to redistribute the load ( no danger of Collapse) to my poor creaking floor. Collateral effects of an addiction:bangHead:f:P:

Too bad there wasn`t an online place to go to and buy & sell for Canadian collectors ,or is the market not there.

I realize shipping live ammo is a no go with CP, but if the bullets were pulled and the bass fired or deactivated ,should be ok, although I guess this would be a no no for the rare stuff.

Not so much a collector, but would like to get about a dozen brass shotgun shells to go with my current trench gun build. They sell new hulls at Brownell's, but that doesn't help me up here since they're non exportable.. FOUND SOME

Yah ,it`s too bad some stuff is so hard to get here (supply and demand I suppose) as I wanted a few for my collection, and of course while I was over the border at Cabelas....there they were for $24 bucks US for I think a pack of 25 I think.

Oh well, good luck !
