I started collecting when I worked at Guncraft in Calgary years ago. I went through the test ammo drawers and got one of everything different (caliber and headstamp...some really good stuff). For one month on Satudays I visited every place I could think of in Calgary (including Mohawk gas stations) and purchased every different box of 50 count 22RF ammo (S,L,LR,Mag) that could be gotten...wound up with over 90 different to start. Now have some 500 to 600 different (lost count). I remember at WSS (pre UFA) they kept a metal gold panning dish on the counter with all sorts of miscellaneous ammo. Found lots there as well. At the local shows in Calgary there are 2 major dealers that are usually in attendance. The stock changes from show to show and if you were looking for something specific just ask. I was able to finally get 2 and 3mm Kolibri and Lilliput cartridges from one of the dealers after a number of years. I've managed to amass a decent collection of rifle and pistol cartridges...small to large...old to new. Lot's of original Sharps, WCC proprietary, 30-06 especially, and a fair bit of British (Africa use).
Along with the cartridges are the reference materials. Complete set of Hoyem. Complete set of Datig. Every edition of Cartridges of the World...(for starters)...and many others (a lot of which are long out of print).
