Any BC hunters loose their LEH today.

Been to renew my BC cards today... No such talk and nothing posted in the Access Centres north of PG.

OP, Do you have a named reference - If not, Why border with your hearsay?

well..... no one has stepped up to form a meaningful provincial conservative party that is pro firearms and pro hunting using the proven science/fact based conservation model . So this is what we get.

Looks more like the stewards of the environment are getting their way again nothing to do with fires.

The area where the tags were canceled had a pretty big chunk of nearly 3000 square miles (520,000 hectares Plateau Fire and 200,000 hectares Hanceville/Riske Creek fire) burnt out of the middle of it. I have no problem with shutting down the moose hunt for a few years as long as the Chilcotin bands leave the moose alone. The Carrier bands at Alexandria and Nazko have taken a big step and prohibited their hunters from taking any moose in the area and have put themself under enforcement from the BC Conservation Services to police the band members.

From summer of 2017. New fires in the area this summer at Narcosli and East of Quesnel have added even more burnt area.

As a local as well I agree with closing the season but it has to be closed 100%. No one should be allowed to hunt. No one is above conservation of an indangered species.

all us moose hunters need to concentrate on other species for a few years perhaps. I do mean "ALL" by that statement. That said there are areas of the province that should be open for LEH and aboriginal harvest despite the fires. On top of this we are going to need hunters to start seriously booking time for predator hunting if we want to help to save our moose and woodland caribou.
It's no question that these ungulates benefit from fire as it cleanses and replenishes the forests but predator populations, namely wolves, have already been an issue and will only cause more damage now that the terrrain has changed.

so get out there and go elk hunting, find a new quarry , maybe bison or something.... and get out there and learn to hunt wolves and coyotes and things.....

also, there are groups throughout the province working on moose rehaibillitation in many areas. Region 3-30 comes to mind as I've seen signage all over. Volunteer your time for moose habitat projects and donate cash to those groups specifically. If we aren't helping fix and recover from this..... we are part of the problem.
