Any Bear hunters going out this spring?

Hey guy I just got into hunting last fall. (Whitetail) Bear hunt sounds like a good time but I am just wondering what can you have done to the hides? I know full mount and Rugs but what else and what are the cost involved? Thanks for any insight.

I've seen one guy (either here on CGN or on Alberta Outdoorsman, I can't remember) who uses the hides as a wall throw. It looks really cool.

If a guy were to do that, one could use one of those "instant" tan formula things, as a throw doesn't need to be skinned out/tanned quite as well as a rug/mount. Makes it a good project for the do-it-yourself-er

Got some nice tracking snow coming down right now.........started a hour ago and still coming.........the only thing is that most of them will be still in their den's....the weather has been so cold.....:50cal:

Yeah I heard that mountains got a good whack of snow and are expecting more. Might be good for tracking if the bears come out to play. We'll probably got out for coyotes and if we find any bears, they will be a bonus. Any excuse to be in the outdoors is a good excuse for me :D

I just got back from the mountains just east of the national park. Yup it was snowing. my foot steps were covered with in 15min almost. Alot of the snow from the winter has melted but its still easy to find areas were u can sink in past your knees. I dout there gona be out very early this month if at all.

Even tho the bears are still sleeping Wolf season starts 2moro. I hope people don't hunt them like coyotes but if u can get a good one there a good trophy

Well we got about 20 cm of new snow last night/today. Looks like I might have to postpone bear hunting until the fall, maybe winter will be over by then ,lol. I know thing can change quickly but it sure is depressing when it's April 1 and you still have tons of snow and cold weather.

To make matters worse .... another 10-15 for tonight

I was out today on the snow machine and got stuck on the shady side of some trees, the snow was 4 feed deep there. Out in the sun it is was only between 2 - 3 feet deep.

Like usual middle to late May is going to be prime time to get a bear around here.

Shhhh, can't tell the girlfriend that ;) I am getting married end of May which puts a dent in prime hunting time :D

Well, we went out this weekend to do a bit of scouting. LOTS of snow in some spots, no snow at all in others. Saw more deer than I ever have during hunting season (funny how not getting shot at makes you so brave). Nice to get out and enjoy the mountains again :D

Congrat's, what a honeymoon you're going to have. My wife wouldn't let me get away with her being a bear bait.

Yeah, just a few months of freedom left :D We are going to Europe for our honeymoon this fall (during bow hunting season )

I'll be out once things green up.

I bought some 180 gr Nosler E-Tips to load up and try in my .30-06. I think they will ruin Smokey's day!:D
