I have tried to get in on some gun deals here on CGN and elsewhere this week and am always just a little too late. My timing is off. Is there a way to get it back or do I just keep plugging along and eventually catch up? On the bright side the EE is picking up, I assume with hunting season just around the corner.
I was thinking of posting this on the EE but nobody wants to trade for bad timing.

Good things come on all the time. Check every day. Also, sometimes you will find something that no one else wants but you find fascinating. I've bought a few guns that I love that were sitting one the EE for a few weeks before I snabbed them. don't be afriad to pick up one that has been on for awhile!

Was playing my daughter's netbook that I paid half price for (absolute right time-right place situation) and spotted 308 dies. So far, I think I own them. Just timing I guess.

and check often.

.

+1. This is the truth. I missed deals on several Ruger Mk.II / III / 22/45 pistols by minutes before I caught one. Also hesitated on a Mossberg 151M and lost it by thinking about it overnight...

1) Check EE often
2) Know your prices/details on the gun you want
3) Have money on hand and ready to go
4) Be ready to pull the trigger on a deal immediately if it is what you are looking for.

Your hearing good advise and you can always post a WTB (wanted to buy) ad... :)

Also know exactly what you are looking for and what it would cost in a store that way you can jump when you se a deal...

D*mn Mark that is an awesome avatar... :D

I've missed out on a couple deals as well. Saw a nice Ruger MK-II in 243 last year that was going for dirt cheap. Didnt want to spend the money at the time so I quickly passed it along to friend (another CGN member) and he picked it up.
After I saw the rifle in person, I was kicking myself.

Only other one that I still kick myself was a Rem 700 in 338wm. Went for dirt cheap and really fast. I was the first viewer of the ad when it was posted and after I thought about it for 2 minutes, sent the guy an email and it was already gone.

All about being in the right place at the right time. (or posting a WTB ad)

There have been a couple of guns that were on my "definitely buy" list. Those I didn't dicker for. If they were listed at a decent price I just said "I'll take it". On the others I usually think for a while before I buy them. I try not to be too impulsive.

I wish I was rich.

timing

I guess that I must have the luck of the deal on my side over the last 2 years.

I have had a want list of guns and accessories that I have been looking for.

So far all my EE purchases have fallen nicely into place.

Most of the above advice holds true.

Know what you are looking for and the price you want to pay.

Stop by the EE often, dont be afraid to discuss price, shipping or extras.

If you see a smoking deal, just say "I will take it" and pay the sellers price.

As for the seller selling to another before you, I have not had that problem, just lucky so far.

Happy Hunting

Another tack you can take if you dont have all the cash. Ask if the seller will take a reasonable deposit while you come up with the rest of the cash. I think most sellers just want a confirmed sale. The rest is detail. This works especially well when it has been listed for quite some time and had several reductions. A sale is a sale even if it takes a while to put it all together.
