Any Canadian Sharps Rifle Collectors?

I have been incredibly fortunate in being able to acquire a Freund marked Sharps sporting rifle. This rifle was shipped in June of 1876 to Ben Kittredge in Cincinnati Ohio. Kittredge then retailed the rifle to the Freund Brothers, who almost certainly sold this rifle from their Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory store.

Rifle is matching and chambered for the 40-70 2 1/4" Bottleneck cartridge.

Got to test out the 40-70 SBN in the Freund & Bro 1874 Sporting Rifle. I look forward to learning a bit more about getting this old rifle to shoot!

Anyone else have any recent finds or good range trips?

I'm really thinking of placing an order with Shiloh for a .50 calibre rifle soon!

I bought a c sharps 40/70 SS off this site. Been playing with it. I think its my favorite rifle. I would have to go check my notes but i think i was getting 8 inch 5 shot groups at 300 yards shooting off sticks and a lawn chair. Im also npt cleaning between shots.
I figure i can do better in the future with more load development. I really like the 40/70ss. So far i like it better tjan 40/90. 45/60. 45/70. 45/90 45/120. and 50/70
Everything so expensive for 50 caliber The express type cartridges i could never get to shoot really good unless i cleaned between shots. The 40/70ss with 400 grain doesnt kick and definately less wind drift than a 45. cal 405 grain.
C Sharps makes nice rifles but Shilohs just seem better. Im not sure why. Anyway i think its a six year wait right now for shiloh and you could probable buy a original sharps for less money than a shiloh.
 
It's a six year wait eh? That's brutal. The .50s are a lot of fun. I've had three original .50s, a .50-70 US Model 1866 Trapdoor, an 1868 Sharps Carbine in .50-70 and an original 1874 military rifle in .50 2". Something fun about the .50s, but I agree the 45s and 40s tend to shoot a bit better it seems.
 
Wait times for Shiloh Sharps has always been long prompting some to buy a Pedersoli Sharps while they are waiting for their Shilohs to come so they have something to play with while waiting .I personally have four Shiloh Sharps and one C Sharps High wall and a C Sharps 1875 Sporter and they are great rifles and worth the wait as you can get quite a few custom options if you want them .Also I believe the wait time is a bit less if you get a standard version with no extras. The one gun I m sad I missed out on was one of the Lone Star rolling block rifles as they were the Shiloh Sharps of the rolling block rifles

It’s been probably 3-4yrs since I last stopped in Big Timber and spent an afternoon at C.Sharps & Shiloh. The young lady at Shiloh gave me a tour of the manufacturing facility and with only 6 people doing the work I can understand the waiting times.
It might be worthwhile to contact either facility to see if they have anything similar to what you would order sitting in the sales rack. Both places had several variations for sale. I didn’t have enough room on my Visa for this though, but there were 6-8 that were a lot less.

What a gorgeous rifle! I was at the show in Denver last year and got to see an original 1877 up close. What a sleek and refined rifle.

I was with a buddy at Shilo 15 yrs ago and he pulled his visa out for a $9000 mod 74 with "several niceties" added....until his wife "gave him the look"...visa back to pocket & rifle back to hanger on that side wall.
ironic thing is he doesn't have the rifle...or wife now.

He broke the cardinal rule of gun shopping never take your wife along with you lol
