With the weather changing and the divers starting to trickle down is anyone fielding classic old double guns for waterfowl this season?

I just stocked up on some more bismuth. Not cheap but a small price to pay to hunt with a 50-70 era double gun again

I am using a universal double wing sxs 10 gauge 32" barrels to pass shoot geese in northern alberta definitely the right tool for the job i love that gun.

Depends... how classic???

If 70's BSS's are classic to you, then, yes. When hunting woodies and teal up timbered beaver runs, I like a SXS with 2 3/4 #4 steel. It has just the right feel for the game and the terrain.

As hoytcanon said..... how classic? For the opener I used a 20 ga Winchester 101 O/U(the original 101s) and Kents new bismuth, (2 3/4" # 5) with success!

Shoot a Brno ZP47 12 ga. sidelock sometimes, and also a Merkel 16 ga O/U both kill ducks and geese OK.

I hunt with a mid 1800 double 14ga muzzleloader using bismuth shot a few times a year. Your right, its expensive, but worth it. I usually pick the dry days just to avoid moisture issues and black powder, but still a good time.

I don't have a double gun, but this bismuth shot, is it something you can only reload, or can you buy it already rolled? Expensive?

It's available factory loaded but as canvasback says. Not cheap. $22.99 a box for 2-3/4" 1-1/16oz #6. 1-1/4 oz #5 are $25.99. A box is 10 shells not 25. But it's safe for older doubles with fixed chokes

I know it's not waterfowl, I'm scared of doing something that can't be undone if I shoot anything other than target load through Grandpas eatons.

When I hear the term "classic doubles" for the purpose of waterfowling pre-50's American side by sides come to mind. Parkers, Winchesters, A.H. Fox, Ithaca's, L.C. Smith's etc.. Big beefy guns built for heavier loads and hunting from blinds and skiffs as opposed to the lightweight finely balanced english upland guns. I would love to have one of the large frame Parkers or a Win Model 21.
There is a beautiful example of a Model 21 Heavy Duck just posted on Guns International. 3" chambers, 30" F/F.
