Any consensus on the proper, way to measure the length of the barrel of the revolver?

Given enough cylinder slop and barrel cylinder gap, measuring from the cylinder face could give quite a head start on the measurement of the barrel.
Is a Russian gas seal Nagant measured with the cylinder cammed foreward or at rest in the rear position?

Considering the barrel length law does not state anywhere 'barrel length on firing' or any other circumstance, one would assume any defence would impart the RULE OF LENITY.

The definition there refers to "immediately in front of the cylinder", not from the face of the cylinder to the face of the muzzle.
If the powers that be are going from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle, great! It will allow revolvers to have barrel measurements slightly longer than the length of the tube fitted to the receiver.

Ancalagon - the intent was to prohibit as many firearms as possible, both those already on the market, and those which might enter it.

As far as I know the cylinder face is the area most immediately in front of the cylinder, anywhere past that is....cylinder. And to the other poster's query about shaving the cylinder face.....I believe that WOULD render the gun restricted AND most unpleasant (possibly dangerous) to shoot. You could even remove the cylinder altogether and have a 'non-gun' thereby removing the need for a licence altogether!

In Alberta, if I shave 2.1 mm off the cylinder of a 104 mm prohib will it become restricted? :p

Yes, but all you would need to shave off is 1.1mm to make your hypothetical revolver restricted.

Definitely, considering optimum cylinder gap is .004" to .006" (.10mm to .15mm) .
