Well not to be rude..but walking in orange, in a Regular hunting season, with a gun..and not expecting someone to think you aren't hunting is stupid.

I am almost positve..with out a gun you are fine..if a group of hunters are out and one gets his..he can still continue by a pushing bush, skin, or what have you..the licence is to take game.

So call their office. The number is in the phone book, and they will tell you.

Tried that, never got a call back.
Here I thought this site what for asking questions, and answering them. Silly me.

Thanks for the information from the rest of you. I did end up getting a PM from a CO.

nope, yer frubarred......... camera and bear spray.
ALSO there is a permit required for a non hunter to accompany a hunter while in the field pursuing game...... or at least there used to be..... called a "permit to accompany" and i believe it is mentioned in the B.C. hunting regs.
A friend of mine used to take this WW2 veteran with no family out hunting, drove for him, carried the rifle for him and dragged the game for him even though he had no hunting liscence. he did not carry a second firearm, just the hunter's and when time for a shot came, handed the rifle to the old fella. He did this under the protection of a permit to accompany.
something you might want to look into by calling the CO office in your area. If you have troubles finding a contact, p.m. me, I'll hook you up, I have a couple B.C. C/O's as clients.

Thank you for the reply, I got the info I needed. I`m just going to get my hunting licence, screw it.

what Province was the CO from and what did he tell you in regard to the legality of accompanying a hunter in British Columbia while armed with a shotgun and a PAL?

Good question, ``RGV.``
As to what Province, it didn`t say - and I didn`t ask. Will PM though.

In a nutshell, it`s a no go. I`ll link him to this thread, if he`d like to expand.

There is no orange requirement in BC, thank god...:)

There is no permit needed to tag along with another hunter.

it's legal for you to carry a gun for defense purposes as long as you aren't looking for animals for your buddy to shoot. Once that happens you are now "hunting":p

Best options:

Carry a gun only when alone, not when with a hunter

Get your CORE and HL

From the BC Synopsis ........

Hunt and Hunting

- includes shooting at, attracting, searching for, chasing, pursuing, following after or on the trail of, stalking, or lying in wait for wildlife or attempting to do any of those things, whether or not the wildlife is then or subsequently wounded, killed or captured:

(a) with intention to capture the wildlife, or

(b) while in possession of a firearm or other weapon.

My own opinion, is that you should accompany your buddy and enjoy the trip, and that you should carry the shotgun if you want as is your legal right as a PAL holder.

If you put a pair of binoculars to your eyes, while armed, you enter a grey area under the definition of 'hunt and hunting', but here in BC, we don't have the 'deemed to be hunting' foolishness the Eastern provinces seem to have.

but here in BC, we don't have the 'deemed to be hunting' foolishness the Eastern provinces seem to have.

That's great but here in the east, we don't have the "deemed to be getting stalked by a hungry grizz" that western provinces have. In other words, we like carrying our guns in the woods whereas you need to. It boils down to "Want vs Need"

I have taken many friends hunting with me over the years that did not even have a firearms license as long as they are within arms reach of you they can carry any firearm they want...
