I'm seeking some advice on gunleather. I have a New Vaquero (Bisley) in gun purgatory currently but it will eventually be released and will find its way into my grubby paws eventually. My next problem is what to holster it into.

There are so many holster options and an awful lot of them are either Indian or Chinese. I'd like to stay away from offshore stuff.

Can you guys who shoot cowboy action matches recommend a gun rig that has cartridge loops and is the low hang/ fast draw type? Preferably a maker in Ontario or even a Canadian one. I have checked some site sponsors but they seem to only carry the triple K (Chinese) gun belts and they need not apply.

Back on topic. El Paso Saddlery makes excellent cowboy/western holsters, and Diamond D makes excellent but more modern kit. Both American, both quality leather.
 
Actually my sister does custom leather work...no website...maye some pics on FB.
I think she doesn't charge enough personally.
I keep her on the straight and narrow as Western style leather is definitely present in my world.
You won't get the high end tricks though...no spring steel to pop open the holster...no deflection plate in the 'Toe' of the holster. But crazy high quality leather...she can do custom motifs as well. Don't have to settle for oak leafs and acorns any more... want a big boobed NDN lady or Soiled Dove down the side of the holster...I can prolly talk her into it.
I gain '0' cash from this...she just does nice work IMO
 
Check "the Last Best West" in Alberta. Other online choices are Mernickle and other US makers. Just Google.

Keep your eye on CGN parts and accessories for handguns. God options frequently come up.
 
Painkillers: What you are looking for is called a 'Buscadero' rig. As WilliamWallace points out, Last Best West (Out of Calgary), is a good Canadian source. Then, there's Mernickle, El Paso Saddlery, Tombstone Leather, and other U.S. gunleather makers. A quick Google search should turn up plenty of possible sources.
 
Thank you kindly for the suggestions guys, I knew I came to the right place and to "Vicious", yea...I'm kinda shocked at some of the prices. They seem to range from $200-$300 all the way past that dusty $1000 dollar bill!? Booshi Gucci couture gun leather!?

@ Tokguy, has your sister ever made a "Buscadero" style gun belt and holster before? While I'd rather keep my money in Canada by purchasing from a Canadian retailer who sells Canadian made product, I'd much, much rather support a Canadian artisan putting cash where it would do the most good, supporting a Canadian family. The guys have sent me down a bit of a research rabbit hole, but if she is capable and interested in the work...PM me.

I'm going to PM you a phone # for a friend of mine that has been making cowboy rigs for 10 yrs or so. I just talked with him & he says he is agreeable to do one up for you. Depending on what you want for extras as in hand tooling will increase the cost but for a basic two gun rig it will start at around $800. He is a cowboy shooter himself so knows what is desirable in a working rig.
You stated you want a buscadero style and there are two ways to make that work for you that you should give a little thought to before getting on the phone. In one way, the holster flap goes through a drop down slot cut into the belt and they hang down from that slot...the other is for the holsters too have an extra long flap that allows them to loop completely over the belt and still hang down low enough to be buscadero style. There are benefits to both styles for a cowboy shooter. Most of the Hollywood stars use the slot cut style so maybe more authentic to what you want but the holsters are always in the exact same spot, no adjustment possible....with the over the belt style you can adjust each side to where it suits you anytime you want...I dont know your body style or if you fight weight change at all and the over the belt style allows you to change your belt size at a later date if wanted ( quite common for folks after a few years "growth" will add a small piece to a belt or move the buckle, LOL).
Another thing to give some thought to is if you want both strong side holsters or a strong & one cross draw. Again Hollywood style is predominantly both strong but probably 95% of cowboy shooters use the strong-cross draw combo.
Niether my wife or I use one of his rigs (purchased before he started making outfits) but we have lots of friends who do use his work and I have never seen a problem with any of them...holsters are always built stiff and tough enough to stay stiff unless you abuse them ( pancake them).

Hey fingers, it's not a brace, rather only one, RH, strong side. I would imagine that a buscadero style would be a pain in the azz for a real cowboy or anyone carrying while they were actually working, I'm aware it's a Hollywood gunfighter coz play type of rig, but that works for me. I only ever intend on using it at the range. Weight problems aside (I don't have any) I believe the full overwrap you mention would be better if tending a fence line on horseback or quad. The holster and gun could be easily moved 360 degrees around the belt to keep it out of the way when working, but again, that won't be a benefit for my intended uses. I'd be looking for the slit type belt, preferably with a holster that can be removed and put on a high mount 3 o'clock straight belt. Having the ability to moving the revolver handle from wrist height to elbow height is a benefit.

My gun range doesn't allow cross draw.
 
I've seen other officialdom objecting to two guns at the same time, and yet others who thought two-handed shooters were wimps and required qualifying shoots to join their range to be done strong-hand-only, so Double Duelist may be the only safe shooting style. But I'm sure someone will regale us now with a story of it being deprecated too.
