I have a sporterized Swedish mauser that I got for $250, and I'd like to put a scope on it to make a budget hunting rifle. I'm not going to spend $900 on a scope for it. Is there anything out there under $200 that's half decent? Thanks

The diamondback tactical 3-9x40 can be had for 199.
Ive got a couple of them on my ruger ranch rifles.
They do the job well.
But i like the reticle.
U might not.

Used will be your best bet, but Vortex has some nice entry level options in the diamondback and crossfire lines depending on the magnification range you are looking for.

though honestly, i would recommend setting aside a little bit more and trying to reach the 300 dollar range. opens the options up a lot.

I have a 1-4 Bushnell Elite LVPO that I really like that was on sale for under $200. Great for using in the bush where I do not need much magnification. Clear glass and not much to go wrong with it.

PM sent, I have a nice pre-owned Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40mm that I just received on another deal that is surplus to my needs. It should be perfect for your Swedish Mauser.......:)

Tasco 3-9x40 at princess auto for 99.99, currently on sale for 48 bucks. It’s your standard “came with the gun” scope and I wouldn’t pay more than that for something else unless you’re willing to pay significantly more

OP, depends on your definition of decent. I think any Bushnell, Burris, Vortex from the lower end of their scopes would fill your needs. There are a lot of good suggestions in this thread.

I like vortex, but I'm not sure $200 is enough to get a decent scope from them. The Crossfire did quite poorly in a side by side comparison another CGNer did a few years back, and i don't like the big turrets on the Diamondback tactical for a hunting rifle.

Used Bushnell or Burris would get my vote in that price range. Personally I would up the budget a bit though, $300-400 gives you a lot more options and the nice thing about optics is they're not permanently tied to a given rifle so you can always switch things up down the road.

At that price point you are looking for used.
I’d recommend finding a newer Redfield’s made by Leupold, a Burris or a Sig Sauer.
I’ve recently seen all of these used at that price point from known sellers.
Add a hundred or two to the budget and you can get something really nice, especially if you go used.

Burris fullfield IV 2-10. Have one it’s awesome I think the glass better than the E1’s I used and some models are illuminated.. around 300-350 on buy and sell

Alternatively you could go real cheap. I have a pair of Weaver 3-9x40 scopes that cost me $60 each, I'm 99% sure they're the same scopes that came on Savage and Remington package rifles. They're not GOOD scopes, but they are decent enough given how cheap they were.
