Any experience with crimson trace scopes?

I noticed today that cabelas had a bunch of Crimson Trace scopes on their wild wednesday sales and i noticed when reading about their bushline models the BDC reticle is set up to align with .308 at 2820 fps which had me intrigued since most BDC reticles line up for more .270 or 22-250 speeds.

there are some reviews out there for their scopes but most seem to be about 3 years old and talk about a change in assembly locations.

For the price i jumped on one to try but does anyone have any actual experience with their scopes? Specifically the bushline models, how do they hold up hunting, clarity, etc?

Not much info on them lately, I was looking as well after I saw the flyer yesterday. I'm looking for a BDC scope for a black powder gun although the gun won't be available for 3-5 months anyway so I held off buying. Not a real fan of the diamond pattern BDC but I wasn't a fan of the nikon circles either. Prefer just hash marks on the reticle. No ballistic calculator on their website yet although they say one is coming soon.

That's good to know about the ballistics calculator. The Bushnell calculator that has their reticles and lines everything up is handy to have

Strelok has most of the Crimson Trace reticles, but you will need to have Strelok installed on your phone, because it got banned from the app stores. Alternaticvely if you can find out how many MOA is between each diamond or hash you can easily calculate the ballistic drops .

Cheers

Ive used em first hand, a 3-9. Great glass. I like the diamonds for target shooting at the range. Their BDC chart/app has been in the works for 2+ years, just figure out the MOA and find your own ranges off the actual rifle.

They list the first few hashes in the book as:

1.68 - 200y
2.89 - 250y
4.24 - 300y
5.72 - 350y

I don't expect to use anything further than the 200 or possibly 250 yard mark so we'll see how they line up at the range.

Finally had a chance to take a look at the scope, it's the brushline BDC model.

On first impression the scope feels solid, the glass seem clear, the adjustments are decently smooth and while not super clicky do feel solid and not likely to move inadvertently. I haven't gotten a chance to mount it on anything or shoot with it, so can't comment on how it will hold up.

On the con side, the magnification adjustment seems stiffer than i am used to seeing on other brands. It's already loosened up a bit after moving it back and forth a few times quickly so i assume it will smooth out as it gets used but not ideal when you need to adjust it with cold hands in gloves.
My other minor gripe is the lens covers that are on it are pretty shallow and are held over the ends with the little bungees. Once they start to give out i can see the covers flopping off pretty easily. I am used to the bushnell covers that are much deeper and fit down over the end much further and seem like they're on there much better.

The other con, which is more a gripe about cabelas than the scope itself. On the cabelas website it shows the bdc reticle as a series of dots and dashes for the BDC marks. What i got was the diamond pattern, which is what they show on the crimson trace website for the model.

I do like the BDC chart they sent though. It lists all the MOA drops that correspond to each mark and the yardage for the load it is set to. The bushnell BDC's i have used before they only give a yardage and no MOA so it's tougher to adjust to your particular load. I played around with a few loads in the hornady ballistics calculator and it seems like it will line up pretty closely with both my .308 and 7mm-08 so i'll have some decisions to make on where to mount it.

Overall i give it a thumbs up, specially at the sale price and as long as it doesn't self destruct at the range i'd buy another one if i was looking.

I was interested in these too, in particular the Lifetime Warranty. I emailed Crimson Trace (in the US), and they said that they can't handle warranty issues for Canada and there is no Canadian warranty center. So it it would seem that the lifetime warranty is in fact no warranty at all, unless Cabelas will take care of it. I'd be interested in seeing if anyone has had issues with the scopes and what was done. For the price point (on sale) they seem like a great value.
