Any experience with Desert Tech barrel blank machined by canadian gunsmith?

I would like to order a new carbon barrel for my DTA but I can only get a barrel blank. Any idea if there are any gunsmith in Canada that are able to machine it after?
Anybody had done it before?
I want to order a CarbonSix barrel.

I’d give Harley at Insite Arms a call! I own and have shot a few rifles from him and all have been awesome. Lots of great smiths but I’ve had great experiences with his work. Best of luck

If the gunsmith has to do all the work of fitting it and chambering it, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy that particular barrel. I'd just buy what was easiest/quickest/best deal/what I want/what the gunsmith has on hand.

For sure I think that the less steps is the best option for any gunsmith. The chamber length and diameter would be already cut with the correct dimension for the DTA barrel. Interesting. That's not Rem-700 pattern. I would hazard to guess that some gunsmiths won't want to work on that, even ones that normally do re-barrel jobs. I think you should find a gunsmith and have the full plan of action before ordering anything.

I ordered the stainless steel blank from KS Arms and the barrel extension from Precision Optics. I sourced it myself.

There are a few canadian barrel makers. Maybe check with them to see if they'll build what you want. Smith, Karl at KS, the gent in SK who's name escapes me at the moment, but Im sure someone will chime in. - dan

Are you thinking of Ted Gaillard or Dennis Lair?

I believe DTA rifles also require a barrel extension.

they Do, Insite makes them as well. They just dont have the "lock" mechanism on them. Work like a charm though!

I spoke to them April 28th and they said they no longer offer it

Give Gary Eakin a call at Bighorn Sales. Benchmark does a drop in. Complete. No need to worry about barrel, extension etc. I got him to do me up a 7mm RM barrel for mine. Great to deal with, and a great barrel.

I've sent an email to Insight Arms and Tesro (they offer Proof research carbon barrel) but I'm still waiting to hear back from them... At least, my barrel extension is on the way. If no carbon barrels are available, I'll probably go with a fluted barrel instead.

I have a IBI and an Insite barrel on my DTA both shoot fairly well. I was able to get out to 2.2km with my InSite arms .300 Norma Mag barrel. My reloads can get me as low as .2inch with 5 round groups. Average is well under .5inch.
