I ask as my local gun store (The Gun Centre in Kitchener, ON) posted up a flier for a sale on July 26th, and I noticed an intro AR-15 for ~ $750.
Supposedly an Omni polymer lower, O'Dell LMSR flattop upper, with 16" non-threaded 1 in 7 barrel.

LMSR Intro - from $799.95 (MSRP) (6 photos)
The Lightweight Modern Sporting Rifle (LMSR) Intro is a value priced entry level AR style rifle featuring the a 16" plain muzzle, melonited barrel with a 1 in 7 twist that is compatible with .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO ammunition. The LMSR Intro is sold without sights or magazines as most shooters we spoke to wanted to add their own and we wanted to keep the price as competitive as possible to let everyone enjoy more time on the range without paying for anything they wouldn't use.

I have seen they also offer a premium version which uses high standard uppers & barrels from CGN sponsor Trigger Wholesale (@ ~$1K.)

Junk. Not worth the funds. Save up and buy something with a bit of quality.

I belueve the uppers are "High Standard" branded.

Dont bother.

have you used one? I hear people talk on norcs all the time and they are fantastic guns. I think under $800 for an AR is a good deal anyday. plus you get to build it so you know every thing will be good.

Yes I have finger ####ed and used one. I forgot that one has to continually qualify themselves on this forum.

As well as consensus from work armorers and industry contacts.

The chance of severe injury from catestrophic failure is great.

Google as well as YouTube.

High Standard uppers have mixed to not popular reviews and and thier 1911 pistols are sub par.

Not much is known about them up here in Canada.

Norincos are leaps and bounds ahead of these.

Dammit. Im on an iphone and cannot pist the links I scooped.

Anyway. With the polymer lower you are looking at a weak point at the area where the buffer tube connects.

I was at an industry trade show and kept thinking of nerf guns when I handled the polymer lower.

I think the idea is to build it with good parts. you can put cheap parts on it if you want but that's up to you i guess.

I dunno. If all you want one for is to tool around with (aka no LR Precision/multigun/3-gun competitions), why not get a cheap gun. Not like you will do much abuse to it at the range from a bench...

Hell few people thought polymer was a useless thing a while ago (Glocks in the 1980's anyone?). I agree that the area of concern would be at the buffer tube mounting for stresses, but as I said, polymers have come a long way already in the last couple years. (Anyone remember them trying polymer FCG's for AR's?)

Do I expect a polymer lower to last 50,000 rounds? No idea.

I think you missed my point. Someone says they are “Junk. Not worth the funds. Dont bother.” You say “you get to build it so you know every thing will be good.”

Does building it somehow make the parts better? As it seems pretty clear to me if you go with this deal you will be using the supposed “junk” parts that they provide. But no you suggest “build it with good parts.”

If you want a cheap AR to run around the house with I’m all for it. Good on you. The more people running around their house with them the more common they are and the less evil they seem. But lets be clear, building something yourself does not necessarily mean it will be good quality.

As a side note, I would say the polymer lower faired fairly well considering the upper is basically non-existent.
