Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone had experience good or bad with scopes from Amazon?
The price is much lower than at any gun stores, and reviews seem ok. I'd appreciate any input.

My friend got this "amazon special" to put on his Turknelli M4....
He thought he could save a few bucks, and I told him the gun is fine as is (with ghost ring rear, and red fibre front sights) but he "wanted to be cool"

I told him he's a dumbass and should spend min $200 for a Romeo5 or something.
Catastrophic failure after 20 or so slugs.
You shoulda seen the look on his face when it broke... Lmao

I gotta say the $59 Weavers that come on the package deal rifles are decent for a 22 in non critical applications.
Meaning don't use one on a hunt you've planned all month for

Amazon has become an online dollar store meaning some (if not) all their stuff is cheaply made - walk into your local gun store buy the scope you want and on the way home grab a coffee at Tim's knowing that Amazon didn't rip you off

Pass on that junk. For $200 you could get something decent from Bushnell or vortex. I say decent with a grain of salt. It won't be a 6-24x50 FFP but you can pick up a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9x40 for around $220 from the Bass Pro.

I mean I ran a 3-12x40 AO 45$ Fitco scope on a Cooey, that was alright. It was def better than those 4x15 tube scopes. But wasn't winning any comps with it.

Do you have the gun yet? If dollars are tight to this degree, I would look at a Savage Axis or Howa combo kit that includes a basic, bottom-tier scope from a reputable company.

A Tasco 6-24x42 varmint scope would be a better choice. Check out the EE, as they're on their often.. What I run on my 10/22. Its not the best, but def better than airsoft scopes.
Be warned that cheap optics, higher the mags, ####tier the view will be. It would be dark, or grainy, or blurry. So if you are looking at a higher magnification look at another choice.

Some people believe that the only scopes that Amazon sells are the inexpensive ones when in fact they sell a wide range of brands including medium to higher end ones. Most of the lower end scopes are more designed for airsoft but there are some in that $80 price point which are true rifle scopes. I buy scopes from Amazon all the time and in that price range but the ones I pick up are usually the ones with etablished names such as Bushnell, Simmons, Weaver and Tasco. Bushnell now owns Tasco. These scopes, at this price point are made in China but that does not make them bad scopes and these companies have and will stand behind their warrenty. I use to mostly buy the Simmons Whitetail series because they use to be made in the Phillipines and their 1.5x5x30 or 3x9x40 use to be around $80. They axed that line after they moved production to China a few years back but having said that, even with inflation and with the price of materials going up, their 3x9x40 is still around $80 and their 3x9x32 is around $60. With a 3 year warrenty and North American support it is a no brainer. Much better option than Goetland.

You could buy these name brand scopes elsewhere but it is extremely hard to beat Amazon's price expecially if you have free delivery with Prime or when one goes on sale. The only off brand scope I would buy from Amazon is Vision King because it is the only 1.5x5x30 ar/scout rifle scope that is around $100. All other companies are sell their 1.5 to 4/ 1.5 to 5 for over $200. Sometimes there are also deals. My last purchased was for a Tasco World Class 6x18x50 FFP. I did not need a scope but for $120, I could not resist buying it as a gift for someone. Even for a FFP scope, that is extremely inexpensive. Tasco World Class also has a life time warrenty which is even better than their parent company, Bushnell.

So you do have choices, even when shopping on Amazon. Amazon just happens to carry more variety of low end scopes which has gaven them a bad name. It doesn't mean that they don't carry brand names, high end scopes, a range of scopes or that they are not competitive because they do and they are... you just have to do your part, stay away from the off brand scopes and search through their inventory.
