Any experience with scopes from Amazon?

Garald and OK are right, Am.. has lots of choices in all price and Quality ranges. B4 you buy, look at EE as said, and you can use Am, for a price check. I buy in all price ranges since I know what my requirements are and what meets them.

You will find a cheap scope will never sight in properly, or fall out of alignment very quick. Bushnell is the lowest I would go. Something that can handle a higher powered rifle (Not all Bushnell's do!). The cheap scopes as soon as you take a shot, especially with something greater than a .22, they fall apart. You will understand after you spend $100 in bullets trying to sight one in.

Eugene - You never got back on this - what rifle are you planning to use 'a scope' for ? Price is often indicative of quality, unless you 'know what you're buying'. Via Online, I'd not trust the "Reviews" unless you really know the person doing the review ( *not some hack writer in China). There are some 'low-priced Name-Brands" on am - but they might be counterfeit so I'd stay away, again unless you know who's selling. I'd suggest CanTire since if you're not satisfied you can take it back and they're usually lower priced than Cabelas/BP.
If you're getting a 'good' rifle (ca $500 + ) I'd NOT cheap-out on a scope unless you're still planning to shoot beverage cans.

Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone had experience good or bad with scopes from Amazon?
The price is much lower than at any gun stores, and reviews seem ok. I'd appreciate any input.

Looks like garbage.

Basic rule is to buy gun stuff from gun stores. I've bought a few things like gun cases and ammo boxes from Amazon but nothing I really cared about .

Some people believe that the only scopes that Amazon sells are the inexpensive ones when in fact they sell a wide range of brands including medium to higher end ones. Most of the lower end scopes are more designed for airsoft but there are some in that $80 price point which are true rifle scopes. I buy scopes from Amazon all the time and in that price range but the ones I pick up are usually the ones with etablished names such as Bushnell, Simmons, Weaver and Tasco. Bushnell now owns Tasco. These scopes, at this price point are made in China but that does not make them bad scopes and these companies have and will stand behind their warrenty. I use to mostly buy the Simmons Whitetail series because they use to be made in the Phillipines and their 1.5x5x30 or 3x9x40 use to be around $80. They axed that line after they moved production to China a few years back but having said that, even with inflation and with the price of materials going up, their 3x9x40 is still around $80 and their 3x9x32 is around $60. With a 3 year warrenty and North American support it is a no brainer. Much better option than Goetland.

You could buy these name brand scopes elsewhere but it is extremely hard to beat Amazon's price expecially if you have free delivery with Prime or when one goes on sale. The only off brand scope I would buy from Amazon is Vision King because it is the only 1.5x5x30 ar/scout rifle scope that is around $100. All other companies are sell their 1.5 to 4/ 1.5 to 5 for over $200. Sometimes there are also deals. My last purchased was for a Tasco World Class 6x18x50 FFP. I did not need a scope but for $120, I could not resist buying it as a gift for someone. Even for a FFP scope, that is extremely inexpensive. Tasco World Class also has a life time warrenty which is even better than their parent company, Bushnell.

So you do have choices, even when shopping on Amazon. Amazon just happens to carry more variety of low end scopes which has gaven them a bad name. It doesn't mean that they don't carry brand names, high end scopes, a range of scopes or that they are not competitive because they do and they are... you just have to do your part, stay away from the off brand scopes and search through their inventory.

Thank you, for sharing your real life experience. This is very insightful

Sorry, I was out camping and missed the notification about the responses to this thread.

I am looking for a scope for my Ruger American .22 to embark on 100-200yd target shooting

I asked my grandson to take a picture of his Ruger American 17HMR in FDE so that I can try to upload it on this site. Lets see if this works... Currently he has a Weaver 3x9x40 ($79 Amazon) on it with the lowest rings ($15 Amazon) that we can find. I think he has the medium comb on his stock? That combination gives him the perfect cheek weld. I also bought him a fake carbon fiber bipod ($26 Amazon) and the muzzle brake is left over from one of my AR's builds that I decided put on for s#1ts and giggles when he first got the rifle. As mentioned, I picked up a Tasco World Class for him ($120 Amazon) as a gift/upgrade. It comes with medium rings which means the 50mm bell will hang below it but should fit on the rifle nicely. Lets hope there is not much fiddling with the position of a new cheek weld. Hope that gives you some ideas.

That's the exact rifle I have.
I just looked up this Tasco 6-18 scope on AMZ, and it costs $350
