Looking for some advise on value of a older 586. It is a no dash 6" target barrel (adjustable front sight) Only flaw is a small amount of holster burn on end of barrel. I've put through approx. 100 rounds, and the original owner put less than that through. I wish to sell it but I'm getting a rather wide range of value's all sight unseen (from 500-800) I just want a fair price for both parties. Any info would be appreciated. thanks ahead bic

FWIW, 7 months ago, I sold my mint like new 586 6 incher no dash, no M (was not sent back to the factory for the recall) with wide trigger and hammer, for $625 shipped. It had the original Goncalo Alves grip and a Pachmayer Presentation and came with an extra narrow combat trigger. It was a safe queen so I sold it.

thanks for the input easyrider, as for 1bcs I'll take that shot for what it's worth.....thanks

Do the older model L-frames have pinned barrels or countersunk chambers? I had a 4" 581 back in the early '80's that I recently replaced with a newer 581 for $450.

I think Easyrider's sale was fair...and I think the new production 586s are well over $1000, so $500-800 doesn't seem too far out of the ballpark.

As for the value of 'old guns'...some old guns are nicer than new production [hence my q. about pinned barrels and countersunk chambers] and some old guns aren't being produced at all any more. I'm not sure how much I'd pay for a barely-used, blued, 6" S&W 25-2 in .45ACP, but I'm not sure I'd dicker very hard either... In any case, aren't the asking prices on the EE more of a starting point for bargaining than 'firm'?

After reading my post again, I suppose I could have worded it better, but you nailed the point that I was asking about, if I had my druthers I personally would be looking at a old 586 compared to a (new model) 586. But maybe that just comes with being a old guy.....Please excuse my ignorance, but what is EE

Early L frames have hammer noses, new ones have firing pins. Old L frames have standard lockwork, new L frames have that "internal lock" system. Old L frames have machined steel internals, new L frames have MIM parts. Need one say more?

There is always extra value in Old (used) vs New
The listed prices of used guns is usualy 10 to 30 %
higher than new.
At least thats the trend in the EE Laugh2

Good one.. I have always wondered the ppl that sells at a higher or same price used then new retail price. They might have got screwed in the first place by their vendor..
