Maybe I'm a first time buyer. Is Remington 700xcr tac in .223 a good start? I got kinda nervous about a salesman with NO enthusiasm what-so-ever. Maybe he dislikes .223....doooooo YOU? Should I be shopping for something else? it costs 1K and change, in a box with nothing included. It LOOKS nice to me, but I got nothing else to go on, any help would be much appreciated. Thx.

...bullets primarily....a little slapstick for ya....*clears throat*...Really though, paper targets, rock targets, wood targets, bulls eyes, dead fish in barrels (like this one time on mythbusters....), bottled liquids, nothing 'alive'. Range/bench type shooting, i guess.

If you are going to shoot really long distances you should go with a faster twist barrel than what is offered on the XCR. I think that it is a 12" and you should get a 7-9" for the longer range stuff.

The XCR Tactical has a much nicer stock than the Poice model 700 and the black Trinyte PVD coating is almost as nice as fine blued rifle. I know from shooting the police model gun would shoot to 1000 yards with Hornady 75gr HPBT Match with varget at 2945 fps, I do not see any reason why the XCR Long Range Tacticale won't same twist as Police 1/9
Fired 5 shots to get to center of target, cleaned gun and fired 1 3shot and one 4 shot group. One with Varget the other with Rl 15 and 69gr Sierra MK

Going to try up & down with these powders and see if I can shrink groups a little and better weather would be nice, and I will try couple other powders.
I am very pleased with this gun.Had a little bet with friend with his Savage 12 in .223 on a hunter class target 5 shots + sighter target, he's paying for coffee's tommorrow I up for Remington

Bought an XCR tactical last fall for moose and long range whitetail in 300 win mag. Good gun, ok stock, X-trigger got chucked out and replaced with a timney .And the Finish is too cheap for my taste, but I always change the finish when I buy a rifle. It shoots well with 168 Barnes X triple shocks.Hope you enjoy your 223!
