Any feedback/reviews on DLASK 1911 or recommendations on 1911 between $1500 - $2000?

Joe Dlask is one of the premier 1911 custom builders in the world. Comparing Kimbers. Colt's, STI's & Dan Wessons with a Dlask Custom built 1911 is like comparing a Ford Aspire with a Lincoln. .. both are cars but. Joe built me a 1911 using a Norinco frame and slide and it is an outstanding gun. His builds are the equal of a Wilson Combat, or an Ed Brown. If you have the money.... you won't be disappointed. Forget having problems selling the gun on the used market. When old Joe retires there are gong to be a lot of folks saying I wish I had bought.....

It's kind of funny to me that folks are talking about Colts in the same breath as Dlask - in the late 80's early 90's we used to pay about $1000 for a Colt and then take it to Jo to have him tweak it so you could use it. If you want a hand fitted gun, you buy it from a pistol smith.
You won't get a gun with Jo's name on it that he hasn't checked out personally, I'm pretty sure that the President of Colt hasn't seen every gun that leaves the factory, and I'm not sure he'd know what to look for if he did.
No offense but those Colts are not in the same league at all. Ed Brown or Willson probably don't hand fit every gun they sell but the formula is in place with the best parts and materials and high degree of quality control. And I know for a fact that Joe is still very hands on in the Shop.
I am so glad I got a custom PPC gun built be Ron Power before he passed and now I must get a Dlask while I can. Although Joe seemed very healthy last time I stopped in.
In no particular order I have had 1911s from SW, SA, NORC, you name it. Throwing money away on parts and pointless upgrades. Truth is when you pass the $1500 mark (not counting today's dollar) the extra money is going into labor, finish, fitting, etc.
5 years ago I called up Dlask because I couldn't find much on his 1911's, plenty of forum praise but no reviews like Wilson or Dan Wesson. Met with Joe and explained what I didn't like about what I had. He showed me a few of his entry level 1911's, that was a game changer. Every one has mentioned the fitting and it is the main difference. Custom vs. factory has to be felt. If Dlask was in the US he would be in Guns & Ammo but they reside in safe Ol' Canada.
Dan Wesson, Wilson and Les Baer are made by company employees. Joe made mine and I don't know how many more he will do, he's got to retire some day. I won't be retiring my Dlask Custom. Nestled beside my SW 44 mag.
My only regret was not picking up his last Dlask 1911 Slick, don't think he is making those anymore.

For those that may know, are there any major differences in tolerances and the like between the Basic and Pro models? I'd rather the single sided safety and fixed sights in the Basic, but if the Pro is a superior pistol for fit and finish, I'll opt for that. Any advice is appreciated.

I'm not trying to snob you or anything but wouldn't it be better to call Dlask and ask ? Is it hard to reach them on the phone? They might make a pro with fixed sights? Dlaskarms.com right ? Phone number should be somewhere on there...

The basic and the pro are pretty much the same aside from the sights and ambi safety. The pro plus has other stuff added and they spend more time on it, finished better, polished and stuff. They fit every gun the same, that is to say as best as they can, and they are pretty good at it

I figured the pro plus HAD to have more fancy stuff in it. For the additional 1K. All cool. I'll likely pick one up. I've been deciding between this, a Sig Sauer Traditional Match, or a P226 Elite Dark. This seems like it's the best bang for the buck.
