Any fun bolt action rifle can shoot 5.56?

I'm "stuck" with thousands of rounds of 5.56, which I bought to shoot through an AR. We all know how that turned out. My new plan is to purchase a fun little bolt action, but they all seem to shoot only 223.

I could pull out all the bullets and reload them to 223 standard, but it would take quite a while for very little. I could hardly sell the ammos cause I pulled them out of their original packaging to store them into an ammo can, so I know for a fact they're newly-manufactured 5.56, but I could never prove it to anyone else.

Any bolt action can shoot 5.56? Preferably one that's not a piece of junk.

Why would you want to switch to a bolt action when there are plenty of 556 semis still out there? I'm assuming you bought plenty of magazines to go with your AR-15 so there's another good reason to go with a semi.

You'll be able sell that 556 ammo without any problems.

I owned both the 16.25" Ruger Ranch and the 12.5" BCL Bison.
Sold the Ruger as I prefer the Bison and bought a few of their 20/20rnd mags to go with my stash of AR15 mags.

The MRX mags run so much better than AR mags, and while the rifles accuracy isn't worth writing home about, they are pretty good value for money and a lot of fun.

The Tikka/CZ/Remington/Savage are all marked as 223 as far as I know (might be wrong). I understand the chances of catastrophic failure are only marginally increased by shooting a 556 in a 223 chamber in a modern rifle, but since it's gonna be used by younger and inexperienced shooters, I'd also like to avoid malfunctions such as blown primers, stuck rounds and such.

All of the rifles I've listed are fine for 5.56 and I believe some of them even have this on their websites.

The T3 does

Love my BCL Bison as well. It is my go to rifle and the gun my friends shoot most, it is a keeper. Does not feel cheap like the Tupperware guns.

I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout in 5.56 for practicing since it's cheaper than 308 win of the same rifle. Trigger is good and very accurate at 100 meters with Eotech.

For some reason the folks replying are giving you the bargain brands.

What is it you mean by ''fun''

Tikka/CZ/Remington/Savage and many other large manufacturers make great 5.56 (223rem) rifles, with twist rates that will accomodate most bullet lengths available.

I've had several that are tack drivers, including a couple I still have, such as the Mossberg MVP.

After getting rid of the Barska scope and bipod, installed at the factory and replacing the scope with a decent Leupold, it shoots just about everything, even the cheap and berated Chinese 5.56 well

The Tikka T3X isn't at all fussy and shoots everything better than I can hold at any distance.

^for the record, I had a "Tikka" response typed-up, and decided not too. lol I have now shot 2 X Ruger Ranch rifles, and think even a Savage Axis feels like a better gun. Maybe others have had a different experience.

For bulk 556, I'd be looking at ANY semi that might eat it (though I don't know what options remain?) or as mentioned, enjoy the benefit of inflated ammo prices these days, sell, and buy a Tikka in .223...or whatever caliber the OP might shoot most.

Agree 100%! I picked up a WK-180 and love it!

I know the MVP is about the least expensive/budget friendly on the list, hence why I have owned that one, lol in 16.5". Big + it takes AR mags. It gets my Vote. Great rifle in my experience. Nothing bad to say about it. Really nice, tight, lightweight package. Definitely in the 16.5" barrel ads the 'Fun'

If price isn't a factor much, & Fun factor is, those Renegade & Bison seem really kool/fun. Wasnt there a 'New' CZ along the same lines? What happened to those?

IF I had no worry on Budget, I would love to grab a TROY PAR - Pump Action Rifle. May be something to throw into the pot to consider. As its a pump, you can have a shorter barrel & still NR, like the Bolt actions. 16" or 12.5" on one of those is really sweet set up...& Exact AR ergonomics etc.

you can use a 5.56 chambered gun as well as a 223 wylde. If you shoot 556 in a 223 you will invalidate your warranty. if you are fine with that, then shoot away.

Any competent smith can ream your 223 chamber to a 223 wylde chamber if needed. They can also do a 556 chamber but most will have a 223 wylde before they have a 556 reamer. I may be wrong though.

Holy Crap! A pump action AR! I must have been living under a rock, as I have never seen one of these! Thanks for enlightening me!

I don't want to switch, I want both.

You need both! The Bison takes AR mags, plus have their own proprietary mags, if Trudeau goes after AR mags, all these AR mag only rifles will be clumsy single shots.....

I don't know about switching, but sometimes its fun to run a cool bolt action gun fast and on the cheap. Having a cheap shooting little practical rifle is a lot of fun, and does a number on Coyotes! Can't recommend the CZ 527 highly enough. Put an LPVO and a Rhodesian Sling from Andy's Gunleather on it. Makes for a badass little setup.

Try running a round over a chronograph, check and see if the speeds are reasonable. I fired some 5.56 through my 18.5” CZ527 and got 3400+fps. Kinda spicy and not recommended!

Theres no definite answer without testing. Totally depends on the ammo and the chamber on the bolt gun.

If you can find one a Ruger Gunsite Scout in 5.56 is a pretty cool and fun gun, choice of laminate or synthetic stocks and blued or stainless finish
