Any Gevarm Fanciers Out There?

Hi folks, new member, first post.

I was recently gifted a Gevarm model E1 semi-auto carbine in 22LR, without a magazine. I was lucky enough to find two, factory 8 round mags for a very reasonable price, almost immediately.
The unique thing about this gun, is that it has the hooded front sight, which as near as I can tell from all the research I've done is something that was available on other Gevarm models of this type, but not the E1 takedown model. The downside of this is, I don't have the inserts that would have come with the gun, to fit in the sight. The post is quite slim and hard to see for my aging eyes. I've put a scope on the gun for now and may look for the inserts, or something that can be made to work.
Have any of you ever heard of a Gevarm E1 with the hooded front sight?

Thanks for your help.

Nice score on the mags, they seem to be worth what the rifle is at gun shows! Haven't seen a hooded sight on an e1, is the sight a dovetail with a round base or? Not sure what you mean by inserts, all my Gevarm are dovetail...
I solved my aging eye problem by putting a cheap bushnell red dot (3'dot) on. Works great, try to get the 3' rather than the normal 6' dot as they are just to big. Keep your "follow through" when taking pokes at anything moving cause that bolt takes a while to get to the primer!
Enjoy, don't have to worry about misfires with a gevarm!

Thanks for the tips! Looking for the mags got me punted from Facebook for a while, but that's another story. At least I found a couple right away.
The Gevarm models A3 and A7 came with the hooded front "target" sights.
The inserts came with the hooded sight models and were stored in a hole in the bottom of the pistol grip, where that black plate is screwed on. There were 4 inserts, giving 4 "recticle" options, sort of like a scope. The inserts apparently snapped in to the hooded sight somehow.
My hooded sight is dovetailed into place, just like a regular one.
I guess I better start looking at red dots.
As soon as it warms up a little I'm itching to try my new toy out, but judging by your forum name, I don't need to complain to you about cold weather.
I'm in Southern Sask. and I think that you are likely quite a piece North of me.

I fitted 2 triple k aftermarket magazines for a friend's gevarm semi auto. They needed to be filed to fit but worked fine. They said the magazines will fit 5 different gevarm models with a bit of work. Google triple k & you will find them.

I've got e1 and a3, note the 20 (15 works better) mags from the e1 will not fit in the a3, but the 8 from the a3 works in the e1...
Not without some machining on the a3 mag well at least! My a3 was in a fire at one time, stock replaced with what looks like a 2x6 whittled down. Heavy barrel (shortened with a hacksaw looks like!) to around 19". No sights.
Shoots like a dream, anything including old crusty, rusty crap ammo. Walther red dot off a pellet pistol I sold off years ago. I keep moving my sons flipper target out, 50 yards with those little animals and the reset gong is actually boring, think I'll move it to 75.
I'm in Yxe so I don't suppose we are that far off in temp, Saturday morning looks like plug in weather!

Just got out my dad's A3 with two 10 rd. gevarm mags and two interchangeable sights. Was thinking of selling it but it sure seems like a nice gun. Shouldering it brings back memories of shooting ground hogs with it when I was a kid....40+ years ago! Off to the range when I get a chance, but I've been saying that for years lol.

i still have my dad's E1 complete with the Weaver scope he had put on it from the gun shop when he bought it new. A lot of sentimental value (more than the gun's worth). The open bolt is kinda cool too!

yup...hear ya about the sentimental value. Never use the gun, could use the money....but always think twice after holding it for a bit.

Got 2 E1's with one 20 rounder and several 10 and 15 rounder mags. Love them and have always enjoyed them being able to cycle cci quiets.

With a bit of filing and fiddling, a CZ 10 round mag works. A proper Gevarm magazine runs about $135 or so at the gun shows. Also, need to be sure the attachment bolt is tight on the take-down part or it will be very inaccurate shooting.

Birchwood Casey aluminum black works good on refinishing receivers. Color varies, but it leaves a nice finish.
The aluminum receiver has properties in the metal,so that color isn't a true black. It turns out Grey. The one I did was in exc condition,
but the finish was not. So I just wired brushed it off with the Dremel and added six coats.

had one I bought back in the early '70s............never did get used to it locking in the open position, and was never impressed by the accuracy, so I sold it (for peanuts compared to what they're worth now DANG IT!). never have missed it, as I've moved on to more accurate stuff (imo).

The gevarm I had 11 years ago wasn't a take down model. It would burst fire 2-3 rounds at any time. The receiver on it was round like a break barrel air rifle. It was accurate as stink tho!

I've got an E1 with a 8 and a 20 round mags and the same Tasco scope on it my dad put on when he got it (before I was around). Super fun gun to shoot, the 20 runs better with 15 in it but the 8 rounder is flawless. Pretty accurate too considering it fires from an open bolt. I've thought about selling it as well as I'm much more into precision rigs but the ole girl has some sentimental value for me as well. I've been meaning to put a different scope on though, the POI with the Tasco 3-7mag scope changes as you change the magnification, haha.
