Any good .243 loads?

don't waste your money shooting tripple shock out of a 243. sierra game king, hornady SST or regular hunting bullets give better than necessary performance for half the price. save the premium bullets for fast magnums. for target 85 grain sierra BTHP shoot extremely well.

i've had good accuracy with imr 4350 using 95 and 100 grain bullets and imr 4064 with 85 to 95 grain.

H414 with 55gr Nosler ballistic silvertip shoots great out of my 243win. Half inch groups are easily attained.

Please don't use the words "Fast" and "Magnum" in the same sentence. I'm trying to cleanse my soul of Colonal Craigs writing. :puke:

I used to load the 55 grain BT ahead of 40.7 grains of IMR 3031. It was awesome on "Vaporous" lifeforms! :D

You are right rmkm70, I do like the Hornady SP bullets of almost any caliber. And they have been doing the job for a long time. I would just like to try different bullets out for the sake of haha.

well they only make an 85 grain TSX in 243 so dont waste too much time searching for 100 grainers ;)

Id be trying H4350 or RL19 first if I was loading 85 TSX hunting loads in the 243. I dont plan on shooting anything but wolves and coyotes with mine so I got a variety of loads from 55 grain to 87 grain vmax. RL15 & Varget are the top two powders but H4350 showed good promise with 70 & 87 gr loads

44 grains of H4350 with an 87 gr vmax does 3175 fps out of my 24" tube Model 700. If I tried TSX I would back off two grains and go from there.

85 gr TSX would be my pick if I had to use my 243 on deer or any other game animals. Option # 2 would be 95 or 100 grain Nosler Partitions, Option #3 would be Swift 90 grain Scirroco. Option #4 Hornady 85 grain Interbonds. If the gun didnt shoot any of those bullets decent, it'd be time to rebarrel it to 260 Remington! :p :D

when the bullet retains 99% of its impact weight, it doesnt need to weigh as much as you'd think to penetrate deeply :)

85 grn TSX, IMR 4831 48.0 3200 2.73 OAL
100 grn Hornady, IMR 4831 42.2 3000 2.75 OAL
65 grn V-max, Varget 39.7 3450 2.67 OAL

Velocities are from a 20" barrel (Model Seven).

The 85 and 100 grain loads are at or very near listed max--approach with caution. The 65 grain load is pretty moderate, but as always work up to it slowly, checking for signs of excess pressure.

Fast, small-bore cartridges like the .243 are _perfect_ candidates for the TSX. You need the bullet to hold together and penetrate, and the TSX always delivers. Why wouldn't you use the best bullet on hand?

i found this webpage handy when i was working in my 243 loads.

http://www.6mmbr.com/243Win.html

i found 33.7Grains of IMR 4064 and a 95grain SST to work well for that powder in MY rifle which is a Model 700™ VLS 26inch barrel . thin 9.5 in 1 twist on er.

Alot of H4350 Praise in the 243 world

the SST's Shoot good for me in this gun non boat tails with a nice BC i like em.
