Any good shooting instructors in the Vancouver area?

PCDHFC offers the black badge...look for Murray. i'd rather go for that than basic pistol training, as one training course may or may not be certifed at one range or another range.

If you can stomach the drive to Abbotsford PM Slavex on here, he runs (usually) weekly pistol classes on the indoor range at Abby Fish and Game. You'll learn a bunch and have fun. $20 for 3 hours all in.. look to bring 300 rounds to be sure you won't run out.
This is interesting anymore details or website info? What is covered in that course?

On April 13th and 14th, One Shot Tactical is holding a two day Pistol Operators course in Victoria. I guarantee that you will come away from the course thoroughly versed on how to operate your Glock, and you'll have the knowledge base needed to improve on your own after that. You can also just go to Poco, talk to the range officers and tell them you are new to shooting and need some instruction, and they will either give you some help themselves or grab one of the other members and get them to show you some pointers. People there are very friendly and happy to help if you show up with a good attitude and are willing to learn.
That said, weekends can be Very busy, so if that is the only time you can come out, be prepared to wait awhile for a shooting position. Of, course, you can spend that waiting time watching, learning, talking to people, which is part of the fun.

Every week is different at Skills and Drills. Partly depends on the students and on how the previous week went. However all skill levels get pushed and learn new things. This week we will be shooting Sunday night at 7pm.

I've had a bunch of PM's asking me about Skills and Drills, so I figure since they came from people reading this thread I'd answer them all here.
Who am I? Rob Engh. I've been instructing and competing, since 2000, shooting handguns since 1991. I've hosted and trained with some of the top instructors in North America, Ernest Langdon, Todd Green, a bunch of guys from Tactical Response (James, Aaron, Paul, Jay and a name that escapes me right now), Ken Hackathorn and also trained with Todd Jarret. On top of that I've trained with, and taught with a number of the local police and government agencies, both on live fire and force on force. I've got my own training company Active Shooter, which provides training for anyone from the brand new shooter to the high level competitor to military or police. My main focus is handgun, it's my true love, although I also shoot service rifle and sniper rifle (don't step outside my lane with instruction though). As well I don't really teach tactics or mindset stuff, my focus is teaching people how to shoot, shoot well, and gain the knowledge necessary to continue on their own after they leave.
Skills and Drills is an offshoot of the club I founded at Abby in 2000, Abbotsford Tactical Shooters. It was designed to help people who wanted to get into either the tactical or competitive type shooting environments in a safe and comfortable learning environment.
Am I any good? Well I've been doing this for 12 years, so I must be doing something right. I'm one of the top competitors in Canada in Production Div in Canada (#2 right now) and regularly represent Canada in international matches. I am not a "do it my way" type instructor. I show you what I think works, and will help you with it as long as you want, if however my way isn't for you, I'm fine with that. I know I still have a ton to learn, and will be learning for the rest of my life. Teaching often helps me understand the things I've been taught.
S&D is the longest running training night in Canada, almost every week for the last 12 years, excepting when my work gets in the way or matches do. All I ask is that people listen, be safe, and have fun when they attend.
If you are going to spend money on a course, make damn sure you check credentials of the instructors, and the company they work for. I know for example that the courses being on the Island by One Shot Tactical are good courses with a great instructor.

Was full. I tried a week ago. Only 8 per class.
I am just going to say that if you CAN go to S&D with Slavex, DO IT. He is one of this country's few elite shooters and spending your shooting time with him will improve you do a degree that YEARS of shooting on your own will not approach.
I am a pretty serious handgunner myself and I would say that 80-90% of my ability comes from training regularly with Rob. Anyone in the lower mainland serious about shooting a handgun well should take advantage of this opportunity. Allot $200, say, and train once a month or so with Rob for a year. You will almost certainly be one of the best 10% of pistol shooters in the country at the end of that year. Think about that! A few hundred bucks and you can be one of the better guys in Canada.
Definitely shoot with Rob. Very, very worth it.

I did get out on Sunday. It was my very first time shooting a gun and the drive out from Vancouver was well worth the effort. Thanx for the tip. This is exactly what i was looking for... a great instructor and a relaxed friendly environment.
I plan to attend Rob's class as offten as possible.

I also was there on Sunday and was my first time for instruction. I was familiar with my gun but I am still newish to the sport and wanted to get some help. I would recommend Rob's class to anyone and have to my co-workers that I have got into shooting. I will be attending many more.

It was a great night last night. Got to watch a brand new, and I mean brand new, shooter get his start and a highly experienced shooter drop a mag out of the gun during a drill. We will be out this Friday at 7pm for our normal class. As well I've had interest in a full day class again and will be forming that up soon.
Damn... I wish there was something like that in the Ottawa area. I could really use some real instruction.
I got the magpul pistol dvd's and I think I'm doing things the same way they teach, but I just can't get as fast or accurate as the people on the dvd.
