Any good Tactical Rifle Basics/techniques YouTube videos out there?

Lol. I'm not that noob. I started on that before the license!

I practice those basics already, I just also wanted movement basics and whatever else basics there are to practice too.

I shoot on crown land. Don't have money for a range. All goes into ammo ;)

...that's why I'm looking for good ones. Do u know of any? I know I'm not a seal, that's why I want to know more basics that I can practice at home and in the bush. Less likely to kill someone then right?

Thank you!

"Immediately trying to be badass". By asking for basics? I just want to learn proper movement techniques, form and what not. Sorry if the word "tactical" confused you, but I never asked where I can become a seal online, but how to turn and move with my rifle properly.

Any suggestions on which ones to look out for?

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'll check those out!

Shoot me a PM one of these days, we can get together over beers and discuss tactical range movements on how to best irritate static line shooters. *laughs in evil tone*

Watch the in depth videos with Travis Haley, the guy has practically rewritten most shooting techniques from a biological stand point.
A lot of his tips have helped me improve my shooting.
Also, ALOT of dry fire practice to subcontiously perform proper manipulation of the firearm i.e. proper trigger manipulation, safety manipulation, all the basics.
It all starts with the basics. If you walk on to a range and start doing intermediate or advanced level #### before mastering the basics, you're either going to shoot yourself or someone else.

What range in Calgary do you shoot at? Just noticed you're a local, I'm always happy to pass on the little bit of #### that I know.

This right here. If there is one guy that I try to soak as much info out of as possible, its this guy. To bad his classes are not open to non-US residents due to legalities. Guess the Dept of Defense actually believes the guy is making super soldiers. Haha.

Time to find a gal in Montana. :p

Hey if you find one can you see if she's got a sister, or a cousin? Hell I might even consider her brother if it means I can check out some D3 Courses.

Hey guys,

Anyone know of any good channel or videos that teach Tactical Rifle basics? I don't mean just drills per se, but how to have proper form and do the basic movements and what not during the drills. Like how to properly walk with your rifle, pivot and turn and whatever else is tactical out there.

My buddy showed me something he called the "button hook." Where you lower the rifle, pivot 180° and then quickly put rounds on target again while walking. Twas fun, but not sure I know the proper technique. I don't wanna just try and copy people, but have good instruction that I can practice myself for fun.

Anyone find anything good out there? I know there's lots for precision shooting but can't find any for tactical rifle cqb meat and potatoes. Just drills or trailers to classes.

Tactical rifle at this point is like martial arts. Many schools, many personalities, many strong, fit, conditioned and practiced 'masters' who have built a cult following around what feels good or looks fast to them, few with experience putting these drills into practice in an actual Tactical situation, and fewer still who were put into action against comparatively trained adversaries. Whether in person or on the internet, bad instructors are a dime a dozen. Remember this guy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuqANKDAqxA

But each martial art has its advantages and disadvantages, and most are at least better than no training at all.

Bottom line is there is no single source of truth for tactical rifle. Safety is number one, but is often open to debates of probability and risk tolerance. Fast and accurate is objectively measured. How you get there leaves a lot of room for 'style'. (Not look cool factor style, but variations based on body size, relative fitness, injuries/impairments, equipment etc)

As for not having money for the range, the range isn't simply a place to shoot. It is a place to connect. With other shooters who have the same interests as you, and with coaches and instructors who can help guide you.

Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect, and like virtually any other athletic pursuit, you can not achieve perfect practice without someone else who can objectively observe what you are doing and provide feedback, at least periodically, if only to check your homework. There should be no shortage of competent people in your area who would help.

You will be hard pressed to find what you are looking for as a free resource. Most instructors want to get paid. Why give the product for free? Most of what you see on the internet is not instruction, but advertisement. You want the goods you got to pay. There are probably a few good online resources out there, but you will have to sift through a lot of crap to find them.

Lastly, for the button hook drill, do you mean this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7p-vTZPz0I

Its important to remember that there are two types of drills. The first is a preplanned response to a given set of tactical circumstances, commonly called TTPs, tactics techniques and procedures. Like "response to effective enemy fire", as a drill/ttp.

Then there are skill builder drills not meant to be a an actual TTP, but are a teaching tool for helping you develop an individual skill, like fast target acquisition, or fast mag change, that will have a variety of applications and conditions. A good coach/instructor can help develop skill builders for you, and Youtube is a great resource for ideas and examples. The first however, is usually much more closely guarded professional knowledge that you will find few people willing to give away for free to everyone over the internet.

Also stay away from range Nutzis these guys take all the fun out of tactical shooting. Find a like minded crew, I found soldiers are good for that. They hate civi scaredy cat BS.

I laugh whenever people here make the call "go to a training class", as if these things had even 1/100th of the availability and practicality they have in the US.

Probably not when compared to the US, but RDSC and CSS have some pretty good courses, and there are always PRS and 3-Gun oriented courses to take as well.

I'm not sure why you laugh when someone asks for tips and technique ideas and training and valid coursers are suggested?

I think the point he was trying to make was more geared towards the lack of available slots in just about any tactical shooting courses available to civvys in Canada. Not so much laughing at people looking for help.
I know the most prominent courses I'm aware of offered by ATR fill up faster than a liberal tear bucket at a pro trump rally.

After examining this thread I've noticed there are a few guys all local to YYC. Should we get a thread started for local "tactically minded shooters"? Maybe get together over some beers and maybe organize a few shoots?

+1 for the guys who recommend Travis Haley. In addition look up Ron Avery who works with Haley but also has other stuff on the net. Also look up Pat Mcnamara. His youtube channel is Pat Mac. He's got a lot of his stuff on there in bite size segments. His stuff focuses mostly on manipulating the weapon rather than blasting up the round count. His drills are low round count and are usually no problem with 5 round mags. Don't be put off by his somewhat odd demeanor, he's like Randy Macho Man Savage as a firearms instructor, but the dude know his stuff. Former Delta dude and the most physically fit 50 year old dude on the internet.

Totally endorse this idea!
This is how TAC Rifle started in the Lower Mainland here in BC. A bunch of like minded guys got together regularly and designed some courses of fire. In less than 10 years, the membership grew to over 200 members and now we have CASE, 2 Gun matches, 4 Gun zombie and Night shoots! If you guys want a template on how to get going, check out DSSMatch.com
