Hey Guys,

I am THINKING to upgrade my MP9 trigger, but I would like to try th upgrade and compare against my stock trigger.

If anyone if the greater Hamilton area that has one and would like to meet up at HAHA for some shooting on a sunday, let me know.

Has anyone upgraded their trigger and been less than impressed?

Are they REALLY worth the money?

Thanks

I doubt you will find a single person tell you it is not worth the money. Unless you have one of the new PRO or CORE versions. I have a new CORE and the trigger is excellent, much better than I am anyway.

I bought the MA compliant from IRUNGUNS because it was only $489. That means a 10lb trigger pull which when I tried it actually wasn't all that bad (I don't think it really is 10lbs or maybe I'm just super strong!!) I got a Glock spring from Wolff and it fits perfectly and really reduces the pull. I'm curious about the kits too though because the sear release really does seem to 'stick' thereby adding to the felt pull.

I did this a while back and it is hard to justify the cost given the price of the gun but the trigger is quite a bit better. I've noticed it most on double taps. You can modify the stock parts to get the same effect, springs not withstanding.

All in all I don't regret spending the money for a better gun and some hands on knowledge about triggers.

If you can modify the stock sear to make it a machined sear with different geometery, I will be very impressed.

"...to get the same effect" Feel free to do a search here on your own time and read the thread. I did the work on my stock stuff and it improves the trigger greatly, the sear is only part of the treatment.

I am curious as to why "machined" is so important to you.

Bottom line, your not going to get the same result as the forward set sear and trigger with anything you do yourself. I will put mine up against anything you've done without any aftermarket parts.

I'm sorry, but there is no way you will get as crisp or as light a trigger by modifying your stock parts. The hard-sear alone drops the trigger by a couple of pounds and takes away a lot of the pre-travel. The AEK trigger takes away ALL the over-travel.

Try a 25 cent trigger job before buying anything - polish the parts that rub, and the parts that move - trigger bar on the striker block, trigger bar on the sear ramp, sear on the ramp surface, striker on the extension face (the bit that the sear holds) and the firing pin block. That's 99% of a trigger job/sear replacement for the cost of some Flitz metal polish and your time. While you're at it, tweak the trigger bar towards the center line of the gun to improve the reset.

I take it that you have an Apex kit and have modified your OEM sear then. Did you do the search I suggested?

The FSST kit comes with the apex hard sear. No need to mod stock parts, the stock parts are replaced. Maybe you should do some reading.

Well we've all been talking about the Apex trigger kit, which I have installed in my gun as have others and I've mentioned this if you actually read the thread. And I have modded the stock parts and put them back in my gun, but you read that didn't you? I've done both and on this real world basis I have made my comments. Honestly we all know you're right but do us the honour of reading the entire thread before jumping in to impress us with your insight and wit.

So your talking about the apex spring kit?

Just the trigger

Or the FSST which myself and others were talking about and is the one that will make the most difference.

Oh and for the record (since you obviously haven't been here from the beginning or read the whole thread) I posted in this thread before you did.

I am referring to your first link DCAEK. This is the kit that people are talking about 99% of the time when they refer to the Apex trigger kit in any conversation I've been a part of. Not many guys will spend $224.99 on a trigger upgrade to a $550.00 gun. Apex refers to the DCAEK as their trigger kit in their installation video

I apologize I did miss your earliest post which was indeed before my input to this thread.

The DCAEK will lighten the trigger pull and nothing more. The AEK trigger will change the trigger geometry and nothing more, the FSST does what the first two did and shortens the trigger pull and removes the over travel and a shorter reset.

There is no reason for any of us to get bent out of joint over this. Yes you can improve your trigger with some polishing. But the use of the apex kits especially the FSST will be light years ahead. It's also about $60 cheaper even more if you factor shipping from brownells.

One of the Lt's on my Police Dept has done a number of guns for guys (we cannot install aftermarket parts in duty gun *but the way the policy was written then was nothing against modification as long as the trigger pull is over 4.5lbs, he is a S&W Armorer as well).

I highly recommend the S&W Armorer course -- it's free to LE at least here (not sure what the cost is for non LE/MIL) and gives a big discount to guns.

I've shot guns with every different option of APEX trigger kit out there -- they are nice - but for about 30 min if you have the right tools and the inclination, you can get a trigger that is damn near as good.

The best way is to get the APEX hard sear and cut it (or your gunsmith if your not good with precising filing and stoning) to the angle that gives you the pull and reset you want, if your looking for the best possible M&P trigger, mainly as if you start going into the factory sear beyond a few thou it cuts beyond the surface hardening and the sear will wear soon and your gun will not be safe.
