Its another one of those threads jeesh I know... Ive been lucky enough to be able to buy a new rifle this year... Im trying to stay under 1000 all in.

I was looking at Savage 10 FCP in 308 or a rem 700 of some type... I don't shoot past 1000 so im looking at 308, 300 WM or 7MM.... I noticed with my 300 WM you don't want to shoot more then 60 before you feel it, they need a break. Is the 7MM similar ?

Any comments or hints, or even links to good deals :stirthepot2: is appreciated.

Well, I suppose it depends on your particular tastes, but there are quite a few people who shoot .223 Remington out to a 1000 meters with good results. However it does seem to require careful handloading and excellent wind reading. I'm pretty sure Mystic Precision is one of those guys on here.

.308 would make things easier at those distances, but it can be done with other calibers.

I would imagine that .308 is probably the most cost effective for factory ammo in that case, and you could even sell your brass to offset the cost of factory ammo.

I've heard of people getting great results with both types of rifles, or horrible results since some people just seem to be haunted. I've never shot anywhere near out to that far though.
