was at italian sporting goods today and saw the HK SL-8 hanging on their wall and fell in love with it:p , i put a deposit on it already, but before i pick it up i would like to hear from any owners what the pros and cons are and if this is a smart buy

Can't go wrong with HK, but, I find them all overpriced. I heard from others in this forum it is very accurate.

yah i know tell me about it , this things going to cost me an arm and a leg, well maybe just the arm:D but geeez the thing is beautiful

FYI. Make sure you get all the info about some crack (warranty and repair) that appears in the frame after a medium amount of shooting.

I have one at this time.

The frame does crack at the front, but its in a non structural area amd it only occurs when you dry-fire the damn thing, which you should not do anyway !

I've been interested in getting one for a long time, but every time I get the money together, something else comes up. I've handled (not shot) a few and I love the feel. The only down side is the cracked lower reciever. It is not only caused by dry firing. People on hkpro seemed to have narrowed it down to the bolt hold open feature. I have yet to see a first hand report of a crack occuring on one when the owner has disabled that feature. I realize that for a couple thousand dollars HK should have redesigned the gun so this doesn't happen anymore, but I still think they are worth the money. And since the only thing the crack does is stop the bolt hold open from working, I really don't see why new owners that know about the problem wouldn't disable it. It's gonna stop working at some point, so why not do it before your nice gun breaks? Before you buy one, check to see what the warrenty is. Apparently, some have lifetime, and some have limited time. I haven't come across this, but I've heard people talking. Now the good news is, if it has a life time warrenty, they are just being reintroduced to the American market, so it would seem that they will still be in production for a while. There was concern that production would stop and the supply of replacement recievers would dry up. If you haven't commited to buying it from Italian Sporting Goods yet, check out Wolverine Supplies. The last time I priced one out, John at Wolverine was a few hundred cheaper. I'm all for supporting the local guys (who are great at Italian, by the way) but a few hundred bucks is a few hundred bucks. Here's a couple links for you to check out. Just add the www. in front.

I have one, put over 2000 rounds down range with it. No cracking , I don't dry fire it either. With good ammo it is a very accurate gun. 604,PM me if you want any more details.

alright, thanks for the replies guys, but i'm probably going to think about it a bit more first, fricken thing ain't cheap

Skippy809:thanks for the link and i've only put down half for deposit
XLR8:will pm you if i have anymore questions

SHot one alot, personally even as an HK fan I think that it is

1: Bad ergonomics

2. Overpriced for what you get

I think the thumbhole stock is a POS. If it was a conventional grip and stock, I might even consider buying one, but its still overpriced.

wolverine sells an aftermarket magwell that will let you use AR15 mags with a tiny mod up inside the receiver. I had the speacial weapons one on mine for years and it works great. I used mine for 2 years as my IPSC/USPSA 3-gun rifle, lots of rounds and real fast with no issues.

I love mine. Great shooter.
No cracks in the original HK receiver, but my SW G36 conversion stock unfortunately has the crack.
It's not too big or serious yet , so, I try the drill bit idea to stop it from spreading.
