Really trying to avoid temptation with this new round from Hornady, and the Savage "Walking Varminter" that will deliver these deadly little pills. :)

The action on the rifle looks like a slightly refined 93, which doesn't add to it's appeal for me. I don't mind it at all, I just think Savage wanting $600+ for it is the problem. If that rifle was closer to $375-$400, I'd be ordering one for sure. Trajectory offers nothing over the 55gr. .223 I shoot, just a smaller 20gr. bullet really moving! :) That's allot of zip, and probably a really sweet varmint round...would love to get one.

The hornet will be able to get more shots off between cool downs, and it should be easy to shoot - less blast and recoil than the 223 But it's a reloader's prospect, I think. Otherwise, it's going to be difficult to find a ready supply of ammo in Canada, and expensive. May as well just stick with the 223.

Reloading, though - brass is plentiful and cheap (for the 22 hornet, easily necked down), and 17 cal bullets aren't hard to find. And it only burns a pinch of power per shot; I'd bet you could reload this one for about the same price as factory HMR ammo.

Ammo pricing is comparable to Hornady's .223, availability~anyone's guess for now. Where I buy my Hornady, they've been out of 55gr. V-Max since before Christmas. As for usefulness~It won't offer anything over .223, agreed, other than lower recoil/report.

None of that makes me want one any less...like a rimfire rifle on steroids. :)

Ultra small capacity cases like the hornet are said to be finicky and require precise attention to detail when i comes to weighing charges while reloading.
I like it! I just wish they had gone with the 17 fireball instead. (rimless case)

I have a 17hmr and a 223 so I think this would be a nice in between addition so I will probibly grab one when there availible just for the cool factor

Yes...trying to talk myself out of it. For me, there certainly is a HUGE cool factor. It'll blow a hole in $1200+ with a 1/2 respectable scope and rings though..expensive toy to have sitting unused if it doesn't do something better than my .223. (other than making less noise) :)
